Similar to a '70s movie *SPOILERS ABOUND*

Sorry, saw the twins thing before in Robert Mulligan's 1972 adaption of Tom Tryon's novel, "The Other." Didn't think "Goodnight Mommy" was direct plagiarism but it's definitely informed by Tryon's story.

One of the early twin reveals are identical and there's even a cat.

"The Other" was better, by the way.

reply

The directors haven't seen "The Other", so no, it's not related :).

Fine, fine, I'll leave! But first I'm going to bother these peanuts! Hmm? Yes? Hmm? HMM?

reply

I thought of "The Other" while watching this movie as well. Especially during the ending. Both movies are excellent.

reply

I thought of The Other as soon I saw the twins playing in the beginning, but in that film it was hard to tell that one boy wasn't real, while this film made it very obvious. Both would make a good double feature movie night, though.

Revenge is a dish that best goes stale.

reply

I've seen both and honestly I think Goodnight Mommy is much better.

reply

It's very, very, very similar to The Other, so much so that I could tell where it was going from the beginning.

I read The Other when I was a kid and have seen the film several times since then.

The directors are either unwittingly in psychic contact with Thomas Tyron's ghost, or they have seen the 1972 film or read the book.

reply

Wasn’t it a great book? The movie, notsomuch

reply

The inspiration for this film came from "A Tale of Two Sisters" and not "The Others".

reply

How do you know this? I loved A Tale of Two Sisters, but this is WAY more like The Other. Not The OtherS.

reply

My first thought. So disappointing.
