Wow....why isn't this more recognized?

I caught this on Showtime and was pleasantly surprised. A really great movie that I would recommend. Seems like it didn't have much promotion at all, I can't find any critic reviews even.

Showtime with a diamond in the rough.

I also saw this last night on Showtime. I caught it while channel surfing during a commercial break of the ballgame I had been watching. (Go Tribe!) Anyway, I got caught-up in watching it because for some reason the story hooked me.

It certainly isn't a great film. The main character, "Billy," can be a pompous, know-it-all, obnoxious jerk. The story-line transitions too quickly: Billy is adamantly opposed to taking in his kid sister, but then in an amazingly short-time chooses her over his wife. (Separation and divorce (even for truly unhappy marriages) can be absolutely brutal emotionally, but Billy seems remarkably nonchalant about it. Of course, his sister's drop-dead gorgeous teacher (yeah, right!) throwing herself at him made his transition back to being single much easier.) And its topical message that we're over-diagnosing (and over-prescribing) kids as to emotional and behavioral disorders for the convenience of adults is delivered in a rather hamfisted manner. Plus, everything wraps-up so nicely and neatly at film's end.

Yet, overall, I enjoyed the movie. Mainly, due to the young actress who played "Niki" doing such a terrific job in portraying her transformation. Her performance makes the film. She and Reid Scott had terrific chemistry as brother and sister.

Also, Barbara Hershey still looks fantastic! Either she has been remarkably blessed as to aging and/or she has a terrific plastic surgeon. She was an absolute stunner when she was a young woman and still looks great. Good for her!

Yeah this is one of those little Showtime gems that's gets widely overlooked. If you don't see it on Showtime late at night or early morning you likely missed it.

I caught it last night and loved it as the acting was superb especially from Niki. It did a great job or fair job at telling the story and truths of mental health awareness.

The subtle...or not so subtle...statement against the pharmaceutical industry is one reason this film will not be widely seen. The industry will suppress anything, including something as small as this, so people don't start questioning the rampant decline of our youth due to their drugs.

The educational industry takes a hit too for promoting them shamelessly.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film for more reasons than that. Although it was refreshing to see some are stepping back and taking a second look at this issue.

I thank AMZN Prime for giving me this gift as I too would have never seen it otherwise.

Interesting. I can totally see the issue because of the anti-drug message (prescription) in the movie.

I agree. This was an overlooked movie. I haven't seen it in a few years and I just decided to watch it now. It is free on IMDb.
