JCVD should've been Kurt Sloane still

And do a continuation with another character.... it would be fitting that after the events of the 1st movie, he remained in Thailand and became a master. His teacher by now has passed away and he took over his training camp.

In this film, Master Durand kinda seemed out of place without a backstory!

I think they wanted to avoid what happened with the Universal Soldier movies, where there's three direct sequels to the first one (with two having their own sequels), each one having nothing to do with each other.

For your scenario to work, they have to ignore Kickboxer 2-5, seeing as how Tong Po flat out MURDERS the Sloane brothers between 1 and 2.

It's better to just be it's own thing.

Yes, once a continuity gets wrecked the only good thing to do is start fresh. "Pseudo sequels" are rife for bizarre continuity where you sometimes have to "expunge" other garbage from the continuity and it becomes a muddled mess.

I agree, I was just having this same discussion with a friend. I think it would have been a great tie in.

I agree... they should have retconned the series, sort of like what Bryan Singer did with his Superman Returns.
