Why was Alex the 'Chosen One'?

I'm not sure if this has been covered already...

Back in season one, when Alex and Michael are talking, Alex believes that Michael randomly chose him out of all the babies born the same day but Michael corrects him, stating that the other babies were not like Alex. Was it ever revealed exactly why Alex was chosen, why he's so special etc?

reply

Michael originally transferred the markings to Jeep. Later Jeep transferred them to Alex, his son, making him the chosen one (if he could read them, and sometimes he could).

Impossible is illogical.

I didn't think Jeep could read them, which was why Alex saw him going crazy in the vision he had back at the place Michael took him to when he tried to stop Alex leaving?

Also, I thought Jeep wasn't Alex's biological father?

reply

You're right, Jeep wasn't his biological father... but perhaps Michael gave the markings to Jeep to hold "in trust" for him until Alex was old enough to take them & carry the burden of them himself. I don't know, I'm just rambling here.

Yes, but why was Alex the chosen one? What was so different about him?

reply

There was no explanation so far.

It's not stated anywhere so all we get are fan theories.

My favorite one is Alex is God, but in human form and born without any memories of being God. The idea being God lost faith in humans and the only way of possibly restoring it would be to experience life and society as one without bias then decide what to do accordingly at some point in time. At the same time he gave Angels free will to evaluate his choice of them being slaves to his will. The markings are notes he made to himself.

The theory aligns with the speculation that Alex would either save humanity or destroy it. Meaning, at the end of his trials he'll decide to keep humanity around or go back to smiting them out of existence.

Nicely done. I like it.

Because the series needed a hero that was the elder version of the child from Legion. Thats why :)

Alex is the Chosen One because God said so. If you watch the film (Legion) this show is based on, you would know that the child was born and God possibly expressed some dismay over this (we have no real answer as God is mysterious even to the angels). Gabriel and his loyalists came to kill the child saying this is what God wants. Michael refuses, and that's the movie. I found it to be more of a commentary on religious interpretation
