Changed the words for 'Go Tell it On the Mountain'

I guess when they sing a Christmas song ... they can't use the name Jesus ... which is what Christmas is about. So when they sang "Go Tell it On the Mountain that Jesus Christ is born" .. they cut out Jesus Christ and sang "He is born" instead. That's the first I've heard that in any movie, changing the words from what was originally written. That song was sung in "Grandpa for Christmas" a few years ago and they sang it the way it was written. Sad ... everyone thinks they have to be politically correct ... and God forbid they should use the name of Jesus in a movie.

I just watched it and noticed the same thing they omitted the name Jesus Christ out of the song"Go tell it on the mountain". This is ludacris especially considering the song is about him! Not to mention that's what Christmas is all about. People should be ashamed of themselves. They are so worried about offending someone but what about all the millions of people they are offending by removing it! If people don't wanna hear about Christ or Christmas they can change the channel! So we can make movies and sing songs about Jesus in the movie like " Amazing Grace" and Silent Night" but we just can't say/sing his name. Wow that makes a lot of sense.

Cutting out 2 syllables is awkward.

ludacris lol

Well Did you hear about that little town (I think its in Maine or somewhere around there) the kids aren't aloud to sing Christmas carols at school in the Christmas pageant because it might be considered offensive? Oh and they changed the name from Christmas pageant to Winter pageant because "Christmas Pageant" could be deemed offensive too. I guess its okay if one culture doesn't get offended, it doesn't matter if another one does get offended.

reply

Yes I heard of the town doing that. Actually this is going on all over the country right now. They are removing the Lords name from lots of things. Atheists are even trying to get the cross removed from ground zero because it gives them headaches they say. I mean its a sad day not only when this goes on in our country but also when no one stands up against these things.

I guess I don't understand how saying the name of Jesus in a song about Him offends anyone. Not to mention if it does offend you, you can always change the channel........

And FYI to the directors, your catering to groups of people who probably are not interested in watching Christmas movies anyway.

I noticed this and was immediately upset. I ran to my computer to google the lyrics to be sure this wasn't some alternative lyric which of course it wasn't. This totally ruined the rest of the movie for me. Why would the producers think this is necessary in a Christmas movie? How could Dolly Parton, a Christian, go along with this? It is very sad what is occurring in our country! Merry Christmas!

As soon as I heard that in the movie I hopped on here to see if I was the only one angry! That really infuriates me. I can't believe they didn't just call it "A Country Holiday Story". Total crap. Dolly Parton had always been an idol of mine and I would like to think this was as much a a shock to her as us.

I am guessing this was a network decision so as not to alienate those non-Christian viewers who wanted to also enjoy a movie about family and faith in general without feeling like the network was asking them to convert. I was raised Christian but I am frankly surprised by the people who are upset over this. No other holiday or religious figure gets the sort of media attention that Christ does. The movie is filled with sincere Christian values of church, family, love, tolerance, and human dignity. There are churches and crosses everywhere in the movie and the name Christ is sung in celebration in "O Holy Night" at the beginning (I hope you all heard that) and in the word Christmas itself. At the end, "Silent Night" sings very clearly of the Virgin Birth and the family bows their heads in prayer. So why this one omission is harped on by some people on the internet feels to me like missing the point of both the movie and Christianity. The movie, like the true spirit of Christmas, is for ALL people to enjoy. Getting people to live in a Christian way was Christ's message, not making sure we say his name as much as possible.

I think the people are upset because they didn't use the name Jesus Christ. Jesus is not in O Holy Night.

I guess it's like looking at clouds. You see one thing and I see another. Peace.

Yes he is.

reply

No, the word Jesus is not in O Holy Night The word Christ is used, in the same way Savior is used. Christ meant Savior. He was the Christ child.

I guess it's like looking at clouds. You see one thing and I see another. Peace.

O holy night, the stars are Brightly shining..
It is the night of our dear savior's birth.
O holy night, the something.. something.. distance.
It is the night with the Christmas trees and pie.
Jesus was born, and so I get presents
Thank you Jesus for being born!
