Idol Worshipping Women

Where did they get this from? Is there any truth to it? (Meaning is it mentioned in the Torah, did Rambam/Rashi give a commentary about it or anything?)

This is what bothered me the most about the movie. Feminists say that ancient peoples worshipped a Mother Earth goddess before monotheism gave the world a Supreme male Gd. This movie is told from a feminist perspective. In the Torah, Rachel stole her father's idols before she and Jacob's family left, but Rashi says that she did this in order to PREVENT her father from worshipping them.

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

If research is done regarding the ancients possession of family's gods it is revealed that possession of those gods proved inheritance due to rightful heirs. The Biblical account shows that Rachel's father, Laban, treated Jacob very unfairly during all the years that he worked for him. So rather than a worshipful purpose, Rachel's stealing those gods was more a case of her insuring that her sons could not be disinherited by her deceitful father.

Worship of Asherah's were common during the period of the Tenackh and were mentioned more than once in Prophets. It was said that Asherah was in the Temple (and that is given as evidence why the Temple fell because the people were worshipping her. There is also plenty of Archaeological evidence of such worship. Really strict monotheism came much later to the people of Israel.

I don't deny that ancients worshipped gods. Just that Rachel's stealing the ones Laban had was done more so to insure against disinheritance.
