There's no way I could have followed all the dialogue and caught all the barbs and irony in the posh dialect of the period piece without them. I think you had to really focus on and understand each line and what was being said to properly enjoy the film.

I came out not quite knowing all that had happened. I just saw it again at home with closed captions and it made quite a big improvement.
shareAgreed! I watched it with subtitles and then watched it again immediately. Even then, it's almost necessary to pause and re-watch scenes to really savor the dialogue.
shareI thought Beckinsale did a good job as Lady Susan, but she seemed always to speak in a loud whisper, which sometimes made it difficult to understand what she was saying. I had my hearing tested within the past year and I have no problems.
