they say reginald was catherine's brother and catherine was susan's husband's sister (i.e., susan's sister-in-law,) but was reginald susan's husband's brother? because i got the sense he was not.

The late Frederick Vernon (Lady Susan's husband) and Charles Vernon (Catherine's husband) were brothers.
Reginald DeCourcy is Catherine Vernon's brother; Catherine's maiden name was DeCourcy.
