Did Malala Go To School When She Was in Pakistan?

Since girls couldn't be educated, i didn't understand if she went to school when she was in Pakistan. And if she didnt, what was she doing on a school bus when she got shot?

reply

There were some schools in Pakistan that were willing to teach girls even though fundamentalists were against it.

Girls were allowed a religious education only, and were supposed to be separated from boys in school. Her father's school (and others) defied these rules. The "school bus" she was on was nothing more than an unmarked van, so as not to call attention to its cargo/passengers.

One thing that I understand is that if she's such advocate of females being educated in Pakistan, why hasn't she returned there to complete her education after recovering from her injuries?

reply

She can't go back to Pakistan or they will kill her and her family. She is being educated in the U.K.

reply

In one of the best schools in Birmingham, I know. Maybe I'm just cynical...

reply

I'm sure she still will fight for the girls in Pakistan to be educated. She just can't go back to Pakistan to do it. Who knows, maybe 10, 20 years from now there won't be a Taliban and then Malala can go back. It's just not possible right now.

reply

Maybe your right my friend but somehow I doubt it.

reply

You should not. Her father has grand plans for her and most likely as future state head of Pakistan.
You have a problematic view of world. She is marked target and you think she should go to Pak. You have not seen tough life have you? But do not worry world is slowly becoming a bad place and people like you will also get caught up some day soon. I hope not though, since I do not want to face such a situation.

reply

Lets see, she could...
- Get her education in the West while advocating for human rights and help improve access to education for girls in theocratic/sexist societies around the world.
- Try to complete her education in Pakistan but probably be assassinated while making any school she attends a huge target for militant fundamentalists.

Yea, clearly she's just being selfish. Facing countless death threats and other harassments and getting shot once in the head is not enough.

reply

Why hasn't she returned. That is an incredibly stupid question. Anybody would think you hadn't seen the film.

This question it's because of ignorance. I am from a third world country. Born and raised in Chile under Pinochet. People in exile COULD NOT RETURN because THEIR LIVES ARE IN DANGER. It's not because yjey doesn't want to.

Please excuse my terrible redaction, english is not my native language

As a Pakistani Muslim, I think I'm entitled to tell you that this whole Malala fiasco is well, while not bogus not entirely depicting what the actual problem is. I'd like to state the reasons:
1) This doesn't happen in Pakistan. Pakistan, while not the greatest country in the world, is not a land of cavemen. Women's education is prioritized just as much as men's. It is when you move to the south of the country where you see stuff like this happening which does not make up most of the population. People there still treat their daughters like slaves, sell them out and even trade them when they can't give back the money they borrowed someone from. That is what is horrible. This was my rambling as a Pakistani.
2) Islam has never been against the education of women. Neither has Islam ever been against women/girls/daughters in particular. "Acquiring education is farz(mandatory) for man and woman alike"- The Prophet(P.B.U.H). Women were treated horribly before the advent of Islam. Arabs used to bury their daughters alive. They said that what they did not like, they would give to Allah. In reply to that, in Surah Isra(From the Quran) it is written, "What? Has your Lord favored you people with sons and taken daughters for Himself from the angels? What a monstrous thing for you to say!"
"Whoever has a female (daughter) and doesn't bury her alive nor scorn her nor give preference to his male child over her, Allah will admit him to Paradise."- Reported by Abu Daud to have been said by The Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H)
The Prophet(P.B.U.H) also said, "Whoever supports (i.e. raises) two girls until they reach adolescence (and get married), he will come on the Day of Judgment (like this) - him and I," and he interlaced his fingers.
I think it's clear that Islam has never been against women or for men nor has it ever been against their education.
3) What did Malala do that no other girl from South Waziristan(Region where all of this is taking place) hasn't done? Malala wanted girls to get education, great, so did A LOT of other school girls. Malala wasn't someone special and she will NEVER be someone special. Malala 'risked' her life to go to the school everyday. Isn't that what the children going to APS Peshawar( Taliban attack on school leaving 141 dead) do everyday?
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-30491435
How does Malala get a Nobel Peace Prize award for doing what a lot of girls are doing? If she truly risks her life for the education of girls, why's she not in Pakistan now? Where's the Nobel Peace Prize for the other two girls who were shot in the same bus Malala was in? Why is Malala so special?

i highly recommend you read her book. In her book she describes her childhood and the daily life before and after the taliban came to the place where she lives. Her dad owned a school where they lived so she's been pretty involved in education her whole life, she also tells that islam is all for education for everyone but the when the taliban come they start imposing rules on the people one of the rules prevents girls from going to school. From that point on parents don't let their daughters to go to school not because they are against the education of women but because they're afraid of what will hapeen if they don't follow the rules.
3.) Well i thought the same untill i read her book. She was pretty active in pakistan. She spoke at public events, at schools, she gave interviwes with both the local and national and also the international media, she even wrote a series of articles desribing life under the taliban rule from her perspective (they let her stay anonymous for her own and her family's protection) for some british news company (if i remember correctly). Her dad was also an activist and he was the one that got her into activism and supported her. At first there were a few girls that did the same - gave inteviews, spoke out but as the taliban got more agressive and the girls got older their families prohibited them from doing such things. Malala was the only one who's family supported her when she spoke out so she continioued speaking out. She even says in her book that she knows that if her female classmates had the same amount of support and help she had they've would have without a doubt achieved everything she has achieved.

reply

Make up story and all lies, they (the west) are trying make her a prominent figure and will use her in the future as a politician like benazir bhutto.

reply

It's not hard to figure out.

The gunmen who shot those girls were specifically targeting Malala because she was the one speaking out for change.

reply

I'm from Pakistan ...its all makeup situation my friend...we live here...Along with malala was 2 other students they were shot and dead ...why CNN and BBC even didn't mention their name too...and the injury on malala's head which they are saying the head injury ...it often change places from time to time from left side to right side...it doubt it ...the father of malala Ziauddin Yousafzai now he is acting that hes very educated and well mannered person ...but before malala's incident he is totally uneducated person and he not well known in his area too....its all drama don't be serious about it...if malalas is serious about the education for the girls ...then what she is doing in abroad ...and in sawat there is no threat for the girls to take education...they are just(u all know who are they)preparing her .....

reply

The other girls who were shot were NOT killed they were badly injured. The injury to Malala's forehead has always been on the left hand side and doesn't move. Why are there people like you who think there's a conspiracy behind everything that happens? I take it you also deny that many girls across the world are denied an education and are married off at 12 years old? What a plonker. If you don't understand the political stance of many of the older generation of Pakistan and how the Taliban treat people then I suggest you keep to the Disney movies and leave powerful stories like this to the adults.

reply

Girls certainly go to school. In fact in the Northern part of Pakistan the literacy rate is 80% for girls.

But this Malala is a total fraud. All fabricated stories. Even the attack was a drama.
Can you imagine 4 terrorists enter a small van and fire point blank at this girl and she survives.

reply

who fabricated it? the pakistani authority?
