So Unfunny

Can't believe that Greg thinks this juvenile crap is funny. As for Rik playing his dad, apart from the obvious that they don't look that different in age, it seems that Rick is playing Drop Dead Fred again. Really disappointed in 2 of my fave comic actors.

I swing between thinking it's pretty lame and derivative and then weeping with laughter. There are enough genuine lol moments to get me through the thin bits and keep me trying it again each week. I even came round to thinking Roisin Connaty was quite funny by the second series.

After watching the new series I have altered my opinion and will keep giving it a go. Also agree that Roisin is really funny. 😎

There's only two things I hate in this world, intolerance to other peoples cultures and the French.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I believe this show is funnier without Rik Mayall. (Though obviously, the reasons he wasn't in later episodes were unfortunately tragic.)

I feel they put him in the first series more for the sake of having a big name play Greg's dad than anything else. As talented as Rik was, somehow his humour didn't seem to fit with the rest of the show. Having him randomly attacking his son for no reason got a bit tiresome after a while.

That's not to say Rik Mayall's humour wasn't funny, just that it was slightly out of place on this show. I feel after his death, series two felt a bit rearranged to accommodate it and series three had found it's feet and was the most enjoyable series to date.

Actually, when this show was first on, I couldn't tell whether I liked it or whether it was all a bit stupid. But I'm now glad I stuck with it.

I think that's a very accurate description about how i feel too.

I think the show came in to it's own and it was possibly coincidence as much as anything that that coincided with Rik's death.

It usually takes a few episodes (which can be an entire series in a UK show) for the characters to get going and for the viewer to bond with them.

I think you're right though, HH, that his passing has maybe added to the story in some way. Seeing Greg deal with "Daddy" and the likes of the loss of his own father has been funny.
