A disappointment

The subject sounded great, and the two lead actors usually deliver excellent performances.
Yet we were disappointed, and felt short-changed - it was weak and slight - didn't really work on any level - a promise unfulfilled. The usually excellent Ben Kingsley didn't look comfortable here. These days there are a number of excellent native Indian or Pakistani actors available, and perhaps having someone mimicking, whether of partial Indian ancestry or not, was inappropriate and less effective. Although Ms Clarkson was more naturally appropriate to her role, but once again there was no chemistry, as well as some slightly embarrassing moments of her oddly 'jiggling around'. In any event it was hard to care what happened to anyone. We were left with the feeling - why bother to make this film, but that surely in the right hands it could have been a very touching one.

I found this film puzzling. Each scene seemed to just exist on its own, with no real connection to anything else. And while all the connections were explained, somehow they never made sense, never seemed to fit with anything else. The over-the-top acting by Clarkson should have been a useful counterpoise to Ben Kingsley's stillness, but it didn't. Just seemed like they were in two different movies.
