So why only sharks?

Other creatures in the sea. Having giant octopi fall on people's heads would be kind of interesting; maybe a bunch of barracudas? And where are the orcas?

Is it that having large numbers of sharks coalescing together drives off the other sea creatures leaving them all alone to be picked up by the tornados?

when Matt and his kids were in the hotel lobby, across the street you could see a squid or octopus get thrown against the building across the street.

And one of the sewer workers got eaten by an alligator.

Terrible things Lawrence. You've done terrible things.

Yea but thats where it lives all the time.

The sharks have the most powerful union of the sea creature actors. Don't dare to borrow any money from them either!

Clearly, the CGI folks are having trouble mastering sharks. You want to add to their stress?

reply

^ Ha, ha I was thinking the same thing. Sharks are probably easier to animate than a cephalopod.

reply

Because these films are called Sharknado.
And the plural of octopus is octopuses, not octopi, even though that does sound funnier.

reply

Most dictionaries will list both octopuses and octopi as correct plurals.

As far as I'm aware the 'pus' part of octopus comes from the Greek for foot, so the latin us/i pluralisation does not apply. Octopuses or octopodes are both correct; octopi is just a bit wrong.

But yeah, sharks.

Enough shark to feed the east coast for a month.

I saw 2 crocs or alligators in the tunnel. One ate the city worker and one swam by them.

It's an aerodynamic thing. You wouldn't understand.
