US release?

Is there, or will there, be any way to watch this movie in the United States?

As I look today, there is a Blu-ray and a DVD for sale on German Amazon, but if you need English subtitles, you are out of luck so far. The only subtitles appear to be German. It could be that there ARE English subtitles, but that they are not listed, but I wouldn't count on it. Of course, the DVD is not playable on most USA machines. Chances are better for the Blu-ray.

The listing for the DVD says it will be released April 14 of this year. Also -- be careful: the DVD (to come) on Spanish Amazon is listed as 82 minutes instead of the 85 listed for the DVD on the German Amazon site, probably meaning that 3 minutes have been cut, for whatever reason.

Good luck~!

Give it a month and America will remake it.

Hah. If there was an attempt at an American remake, there would have to be some BIG changes. Near the beginning, when Baloo takes away the one boys phone and looks at it and says 'your girlfriend does that? My girlfriend won't do that...' the only acceptable response in an American film would be treat this as a desperate situation where clearly the boy is being raped, and everyone would need to call the police immediately. Later the boys make a comment about the same boy getting jerked off by his girlfriend. In an American movie, something like that would have to be delivered in such a way that it classes his girlfriend as an immoral slut, and shames him for being with her. They would probably want to throw in a mention that the girlfriend had clearly been sexually abused as a child. In American, sexuality isn't something natural all human beings have, it's a corruption which can only be raped into people.

When Kai was sexually assaulting Jasmine? Yeah, you can't suggest that kids are even capable of sexual desires, let alone forcing themselves on someone. Sure they can be murderous psychopaths, but you can't acknowledge any sexual desires. Can you honestly imagine an American-made film showing in a theater that features a 12 year old boy tearing the panties off of a tied-up woman and then holding them to his face as he huffs the scent? No, of course not. Busybody soccer moms would hear about it and lose their tiny little minds.

Aside from the sexual stuff, the animal abuse would be hugely controversial. The scout master swearing around a bunch of teenaged boys would be unacceptable. You MIGHT be able to get away with one of the boys sneaking a Playboy along on the trip, but only if its contents were never shown and it is made clear that the hero character thinks its wrong for the other boys to look at it. The truck near the end could definitely not run into the tent. Especially not since the boys die because they obeyed the adult.

And of course the entire ending would have to change. A kid murdering a helpless woman with no remorse? There's a reason no other American film has that in it. There would also probably be a bit of resistance to the idea that a company closing a plant was responsible for a bunch of suicides and the likely creation of the 'monster(s)'. Americans are very sensitive about never blaming corporations for anything.

If this movie somehow DID get made in the US, the ESRB would unquestionably rate it NC-17 which would keep it out of 99% of theaters.
