Sam's over active imagination?

Hi there.

Just watched the film today and came to the message boards to see if anyone had the same thoughts as I did.

I found it a bit unbelievable that Sam would just "become" the "Kai" at the end of the film without some kind of magic or some such involved so I originally thought "Oh maybe the Kai is like a multiple personality and one of his bad side ones" as someone on here pointed out in a post regarding the symbolism of him continueing to beat the dog to death as the Kai slowly rises behind him like a devils advocate. This theory was thrown out by the amount of plot holes and instances where the Kai did something when Sam wasn't around.

My other thought was that as we have been told throughout the film multiple times, he is mentally unstable, should be in a mental house and easily impressionable. He had been told about the Kai and how it will transform you into a Kai as well. Maybe this amount of trauma sent him over the edge and he believed he was a Kai as well now because of his fight with the Kai in the water pit? Just my thought on a slightly ambigous ending.
