Cute but needed stronger writing

My hubby and I started watching about 4 weeks ago, so we watched several episodes in a row to catch up. While we enjoyed "some" parts, we both felt the writing was uneven and the acting was decent but not great. After watching all the episodes over a more compact timeframe, we're really not a bit surprised this series is not going forward -- it seems confused and very weak overall.

I think ALL the cable/streaming content providers have become a bit lost in their efforts to continue to find strong concepts that actually work well and have a story arc that can truly build viewer commitment as well as attract an increasing audience.

We keep stumbling onto shows that are in there second or even third season and often find the same problems with many of them. They're just not very well written and most just don't survive past about 16 - 20 episodes, if that. They're throwing big bucks at putting these shows out there but, at the end of the day, very few seem to gain the viewership they need to thrive.

We deeply miss the real successful, knock-em-out-of-the-park shows like "The Sopranos", "The
Wire", "The Tudors", and a handful of others, that really laid the foundation for all these other series.

Obviously, great shows demand strong concepts brought to the screen by great writers, excellent directors and a superb cast, as well as all the rest of the necessary components -- especially appropriate budget and a good time slot.

There certainly seems to be
something for everyone on the tube (or whatever device you use), now and again. But, it just seems like there aren't enough core creative teams capable of making great series/shows come to successful fruition. We'll just have to cross our fingers and keep holding out for the truly deserving shows to
to evolve out of the creative talent pool. We know there out there. It's just awfully hard to have enough patience at times.

As for "Togetherness", it just didn't make the mark, but that does not mean a similarly 'sensitive, rom-com' series won't come along again soon. We'll just have to sit tight -- and, watch great movies on TCM, HBO, NETFLIX and Amazon in the meantime . . .
We suffer so terribly!

Hmm..... I liked this show very much!

Well said...except you made it a lot farther along than me and my girlfriend. I thought it started off OK, but then took a nosedive...and I'm only talking about the first episode!

I knew the friend would annoy throughout the series, so I decided not to waste anymore time on it.

Togetherness being canceled shows how great HBO is. If this show were on FX or another cable station, it would've probably sputtered on for more seasons like The League, It's Always Sunny...etc, but HBO did the right thing.

Hopefully this show being canceled will free up resources for something much better.

the people that didn't like this, don't understand the Duplass's...the first season was them getting their feet wet and the 2nd season brought out their technique that frankly if you aren't familiar with them you really aren't going to get.
