Gem Hunt (Discussion)

Dang, now I want to see Jasper in a remake of The Revenant. Which would probably end up being a much shorter movie. I nominate Pearl for the Tom Hardy role.

But seriously, what is she up to?
Is she bringing that gem monster back down to the Cluster?
Will she... fuse with it? (It's a type of jasper, after all...)
Does she have a tracking device on Steven at this point?
And for crying out loud-- would somebody tell her that Steven isn't (exactly) Rose?

Kinda dug that Connie didn't have a big victory for her first mission. I know, it sounds weird, but I just like that the writers give their creations a struggle. Not overtly harsh ones, but ones that show a learning experience. What matters is that she's shown full bravery at the start. 

My li'l girl's all grown up and goin' on mission. *sniff* I'm so proud!

It was interesting focusing mostly on humans in a mission. Kinda adds some perspective on how hard it can be and why Steven doesn't get to go part of the time. Also nice that they bought up corruption and how Steven really knows so little about it, especially on the heels on of "Monster Reunion".

And that's one for Jasper. Ouch! Not only did she poof two of them singlehandedly, but the fact she had them running scared is very telling. When scary things get scared, not good. 

Just please tell me she not using them as "rebound gals" for Lapis... 

Yikes this episode.

I loved the deliberate uneven tone by having that cuteness with the snapshots at the start and then ramping into the literal monster territory before Jasper came swinging in with that entrance to beat all entrances. Jasper is such a wildcard concerning this show, and I'm not even concerned at this point if she ends up being redeemed or not. I just want her to keep upending the narrative with her mysterious goals and ploys.

What could she be plotting? What will the other Gems reactions to news of her reappearances be? And why was Jasper so confident that stealing those Corrupt Gems would upset "Rose"?

Jasper so confident that stealing those Corrupt Gems would upset "Rose"?

Because most, if not all, corrupted Gems are former Crystal Gems.

If the world chooses to become my enemy, I will fight like I always have

Why not shatter them then, right in front of "Rose"? What is Jasper's long con here?

That's not the impression I got. Centipeetle & crew arrived on Earth by ships, so I'd assume they're all from Homeworld. Also, I believe Pearl commented something along the lines of the Diamonds using the weapon while still having Homeworld gems on Earth, they didn't care about their own casualties. This is sort of reaffirmed in the latest episode where they were said to be creating new gems as fast as possible for the war. Their only interest was winning, not the welfare of their own.

I'm glad they are using Jasper more, because the series needed a recurring villain(ess) after redeeming Peridot.

Pearl wasn't foolish enough to attack Jasper on her own, thankfully.

Connie read that book too many times.

That first monster reminds me of lost planet.
