Earthlings (Discussion)

HOLY SMACKAROONIE.

So much status quo punched into 11 mere minutes.

Smokey Quartz... not the most glamorous design, but holy cow can she pack a punch! Actually cheered openly at that... with people in the same room. I haven't seen yo-yos this deadly since Master Of The Flying Guillotine. I can't wait for the inevitable fuses Steven makes with his other teammates. And the best part? Amethyst got her victory. Steven's speech beforehand? A tear-jerker.

Jasper... do I feel a small tinge of sympathy? Kind of, on her failure to ever have a proper fusion. Yes, its her own fault for being too demanding, but she's missed out on the greatest feeling in the Steven Universe universe. (oy vey.) This surely isn't the last we've seen of her... I honestly kind of hope she gets cured? I still don't want a full redemption, but nobody deserves her fate.

Rose... what the heck did you do in your final days? Did you assassinate Pink Diamond, or were you framed for her demise? Whatever it may be, I'm glad your son is around to redeem your past.

Disappointed in Cartoon Network letting Jasper's 'shocking act of violence' only be a swipe on a t-shirt. It's not like I wanted full harm on Steven, but c'mon, Disney allowing blood in their shows.

As for the end... are we getting an army out of the Rubies? Oh dear, that means another cataclysm to come...

EEE-YIKES! 

Nonstop action. A new fusion. A giant, killer yo-yo. A gem corrupted before our eyes. And more doubt cast on Big Mama Rose...

I wasn't sure if we'd see Steven fuse with anyone else besides Connie. Heck, I thought we never would. But...DANG! . (Though does this count as cheating on Connie )

Here's the thing: after "Monster Reunion", I was starting to think that corruption was an evil curse used by the Diamonds to turn countless Gem into monsters to make the rebellion a hollow victory for Rose, and/or eff with the earth.
Nope! Turns out it's my original idea of a Gem turning into a monster after being completely overwhelmed by negative emotions!

First "Bismuth", now this. Even Jasper's dialogue put Rose in a different, negative light after all this time of seeing her as giant space angel. We always thought she was being really nice and opened minded...now the seeds of doubt have been planted to make us question if she really just..exploiting her followers...

Even bigger is Pink Diamond reveal. At first we thought Rose WAS PD. Then it started to look like she wasn't, but there was the issue of the 4-diamond symbol vs. the three diamond version. There was the theory that Rose served PD and that PD even gave her free will.

But Jasper's last word...change......everything......

(Thank goodness the Ruby squad's back! We're gonna the pick-me-up after this!)

That is not what happened, because if that is all it takes, the Crystal Gems would've been corrupted themselves a long time ago. Jasper became corrupted because she fused with a corrupted Gem and it ended up infecting her like a virus.

That actually makes sense, i just assumed her mind was becoming corrupted, but it did happen right after she fused with the corrupted gem

I guess I need to re-watch that episode, because my impression of corruption seems to be a lot different than others I've read. It sounded like, to me, the Diamonds used a super weapon on Earth -- both on the Crystal Gems as well as their own troops -- and those it didn't shatter it warped. It seems like in the case of Centipeetle there's some strong PTSD associated with it, which makes sense given (I believe) Pearl's comments about how corrupted gems need to be healed mentally, not physically. A lot of people on reddit seem to think the weapon was specifically meant to corrupt, but until we're shown differently my impression is it's just a side effect of what was meant to be lethal.

Given that the gems are specifically made to serve their Diamonds and then to have those Diamonds essentially fire a death ray upon them and their fellow troops without care, that has to be devastating. So, between surviving the attack and then realizing your esteemed leaders gave the orders for it, that seems like it'd surely cause some psychological issues.

Smokey Q coming into being was a small nuke!

Natasha Lyonne's voice!

They went with just two eyes, but one weird double fore-arm.

Jasper, not that much sympathy from me...yet. She seemed unconcerned about corruption or unknowing? Could the diamonds keep that a secret? Corruption here is a like a mental STD with physical effects. What Rose did to Her world..., I assume she means Earth, yeah, we saw what her world would've looked like in "It Could've Been Great". Her Diamond...is an unknown. What Rose did to her is unknown.

Gems who knew Rose have a hard time accepting Steven isn't Rose. Jasper would probably consider the idea of a human-gem hybrid "abomination" just as offensive as shape-shifting and not conforming for a gem's intended purpose.

I wonder what would happened if Jasper had tried to fuse with a fusion experiment, as there seemed to be one caged up (that ran off)

I cannot see Jasper being redeemed. Maybe if Steven healed her, she'd agree to a truce and then a goodbye, but she's not gonna join the team.

So.....is Connie going to feel cheated on when she finds out??

This episode with Bismuth basically gave us the Orange is the New Black crossover event we never knew we needed. I will happily take Laverne Cox as the Garnet/Rose fusion next.
