Gem Harvest (spoilers)

AKA The Thanksgiving Special (without ever saying "thanksgiving")

Greg's last name was Demayo. Steven Demayo? WHAT??? Illusions shattered.

Cousin "Uncle" Andy just shows up in a biplane (a biplane?). Little strange hearing the voice of Aqua Teen Hunger Force's Carl as a Greg's cousin Andy. Some of us assumed Greg inherited the barn, but he doesn't own it at all. The "If anything happens to you, I'll be fresh out of family" line from Greg some time ago is now rendered false and we can question everything the show has told us. LOL.

Andy's reactions to the weirdness of the Gems was about par for the show, surprised but not quite totally freaked out like any normal person would be on our Earth. But "Carl" is used to having strange neighbors.

Wish we'd gotten to see the Gems go shopping. But it wasn't that kind of episode. It's kind of odd that Pearl, Garnet and Amethyst are still that ignorant of aspects of human culture. "Let's all get married."

It was an okay episode. The best parts had been leaked months ago.

Okay...I think a lot of people will be annoyed or upset that this episode wasn't more eventful and epic for being a double episode, but it was still good enough regardless.

If you think about it, this episode does for the human part of Steven's life what "Bismuth" did for the Gem part: a stranger from the past comes into his life and reveals things about the past that give him a new outlook on life. Mind you, Steven learning about the DeMayos ("Next up, a new Steven Demayo!"), doesn't have the effect of learning about Bismuth and Rose's dark side, but still quite a bit for the little guy.

I'm concerned that people will see Andy representing Republicans/Conservatives/Right-Wingers, but in the end he's an average guy reacting to strange people who've taken over this family's property & belongings. Besides, it's kind of refreshing seeing someone shocked by all this.

So not quite what a lot of people were expecting from a special, but still very good 

I feel like the writers were very heavy handed with this. It was cringe worthy in many areas.

Interesting point about it being the human take on "Bismuth".

I half expected Greg to offer to buy the barn, since Greg hopefully still has some money left.

All said and done, I think Dave Willis's "Carl" voice for Andy was too familiar to me. In that aspect the episode breaks my suspension of disbelief, but at least it's not some big celebrity they can't afford to have back.

I was half-expecting Amethyst to suddenly transform into an order of talking fries... because obvious reference. 😉
