Question about the bowling alley scene in this.

In terms of the bowling alley scene, how does it stack up compared to the one in "Curfew?" Is it just as good and effective? Seeing as how they used the same actors and music, it can't be much different. Does Sophia still try to get Richie to dance with her in this version?

reply

Just watch the movie, it is really worth it, yes she does try to get him to dance but then sees that he has cut his wrist and asks him what happened.

reply

I wonder if the dancing scene is homage to the Breakfast Club. The dance she does reminds me of how the guys danced on the balance beam from that movie.

reply

The bowling alley scene goes on longer because they go there twice but the dance sequence is basically the same, she uses a few different moves though.

reply

Technically, they go there twice in Curfew too, but it's a very quick cut before he goes to his apartment to get his flip books before headed back to the bowling alley. To answer the question, if you've seen Curfew, no, it is not as effective because Sophia is a little older now and it does't seem as "cute"... and the scene is twice as long.

However, if you were to see Before I Disappear for the first time, you may feel differently.

reply

It's nearly identical, except the camera and lenses weren't as good, (which was even acknowledged in an interview by the director).

I like that the dance scene was longer and had some more dancing in the feature. They used some scenes from Curfew as well. Cut and paste that i recognized. As someone said above, Fatima is couple years older in this and it's not as cute as Curfew. Her dance was better in Curfew as well.
