Does the mixture of German Italian have anything to do with Romunch?

My relatives from the old country apparently speak Romunch. While watching this movie I noticed they were speaking Italian and then German and it confused me but this was my old way to understand why that would be.

Is it a particular region where this is so commonplace?

If you go to this link https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/32/Dialetti_e_lingue_in_Italia.png you will see the many languages of Italy. In the purple bits they speak Italy, and since also you will find some French spoken in the film, plus the fact that they are referring to the Etruscans, it is my bet that the film is based (not filmed, mind) in northern Lombardy, pretty close to the area marked WA for Walser, a form a Italian German.
