I feel sad for those who didn't like this movie.

I don't think I've ever written a post criticizing those who criticize a movie, but...I truly feel sorry for those who didn't enjoy this movie, such as those who'd rather nitpick the movie or find faults such as bad CGI (what? it was great), bad casting (what? the cast was wonderful), bad acting by the child (what? he did great), animal deaths (what? this isn't a movie for little kids).

This movie was magical and as a 30-something American guy, it brought me back to my childhood while still keeping the adult part of me fascinated.

It's more fun to be able to experience childhood magic again than to sit watching it being a hypercritical, sour-faced adult.

I agree with you. I swear some users on IMDB would NOT be fun to watch movies with at all. Imagine them whining and complaining about every single aspect. If you want realism, step outside and don't watch movies. Movies are meant to be enjoyed and escape the daily routine. The Jungle Book was great and some people just can't ever be satisfied.

"I feel sad for those who didn't like this movie."

Huh?? LOL!

I feel sad for those who DID like this movie.

They are easily entertained, unable to critically assess much of anything, and simply accept what they are told to eat, and boy...do they eat it up. "Please sir, may I have some more"!

They, are the mindless consumers who make everyone else look like fools. Not all people are part of the conformist little lemming clan, but we are often all lumped into that category of blissfully unaware, willfully ignorant, enthusiastic to adore/applaud, sleepwalkers.

But to add insult to injury, it's weird, ironic, and downright funny...when one of the sleepwalkers makes a post about how bum-hurt they are that other people didn't share their child-like love for a given film, especially when it's a bad one.

It's akin to a meth-head, living in a trailer, who's upset that some people don't share their love of welfare checks, rotting teeth, and inter-family relationships. Oh, and mayonnaise sandwiches. Why can't everyone love those things? Dey so gud! We keepin it real, yo! Mayo sandwiches are GREAT, hommie! You pompous snobs just wouldn't know!

So dear OP, kindly shut your childish pie-hole. Although I'll admit that people like you can indeed tell the difference between something which is totally wretched from that which is truly majestic, you clearly cannot tell mediocre from good. The differences are just too subtle for simple minds. And therefore, they honestly cannot fathom why someone would speak ill of a film which filled them with such immeasurable glee. It just doesn't compute to you, does it? Such a foreign concept. HOW could these bad people be so critical of this brilliant film!?

Oh those horrible snobs! They must be unhappy people! They must be bitter and angry!

Keep telling yourself that. You'll sleep better, I promise. The truth of the matter is a lot more troubling. Bitter kibble, dawg.

Instead of saying something like "Yo, step up your game, fools", I don't think that is wise. I say, keep doing what you are doing. Enjoy everything. Laugh at all humor. Cry when you are instructed to by emotional music. Basically, do as you are told. Buy what you are enticed to want. Listen to that great current pop music which is so fresh and trendy. You'll be WAY happier than being one of those sad and critical people, don't you think?

Conform.
Obey.
Consume.
And most importantly, don't ever, EVER...contemplate even for a moment that the things you consider to be great, might actually be pretty mediocre, common, and due to a lack of insight, introspection, individuality, or awareness. That sort of subversive thought...is a recipe for disaster, and will lead to more of the same sorts of thinking. And who needs that, amirite?

Don't question! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

And I think many besides myself feel sad for trolls like you who get pleasure from pretending to be intellectually superior to others with plastic sarcasm and big words, either because you truly believe you are or have no other social outlet.

Please get off your self-created pedestal/pulpit and just enjoy the movie. This is a movie site, for crying out loud...

I concur. These people have caused the death of art from music to cinema, reducing everything to the lowest common denominator.

A person can't make themselves like or dislike a film. It's a reaction. Sure, nitpicking certain movies is pointless. I still had problems with this. Not liking a cast isn't nitpicking. It's a major part of a film. I thought this was one of the least believable child performances I've seen in years. I didn't buy a single emotion or line delivery. It was off from beginning to end. That's how I reacted to him. My reaction doesn't erase your reaction. Vice versa.

I started out liking the film. There was some solid world building and good cinematography. Sure, I could tell the animals were CGI. Sure, I could tell he wasn't really next to anyone. I still thought the FX were good. He sped up the movements a little too much to make it look like a regular kid could move like a mini Tarzan, but that was minor.

The movie started to lose me when Walken showed up. I thought the pace totally went to hell from that point on. I had no emotional attachment to the story and I was occasionally rooting for the tiger. The scene with Ka was masterful, but over too soon.

This wasn't a bad film at all. I just didn't think it was particularly involving or entertaining after a certain point. I'm capable of having fun in movies that aren't masterpieces. I'm capable of enjoying films aimed for a younger audience. I just didn't like this one. I'm in the minority. I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

There are times when I feel a movie could've used some more time, whether it's that the story doesn't feel fully complete or just certain parts feel rushed or certain characters don't seem as fleshed out as they should've been, and this was one. Maybe it's just because ALL the characters were great and a couple like Kaa and King Louie really didn't get much time, but it felt like another 15-20 minutes could've helped it.

Other than that though, I have absolutely no issues with it, and I agree and am thoroughly amazed that people could not like it. The only thing I can think of is that some people will probably never be satisfied with a movie animating animals speaking English, or a remake of a classic no matter how well done it is. Some movies of either type are indeed horrible. This is the opposite. Favreau did it justice and I'd recommend this to anyone young or old. I'm personally rating it a 10 even with my misgivings about the length because it was thoroughly captivating and absolutely a pinnacle of animation and overall quality.

reply

You rated the movie a 10? Seriouslly?... This was one of the BEST movie you saw in your entire life???... How old are you?...

reply

I also rated it a 10. And?

I have to LOL at how pretentious some of you are. Who the hell are you to question or challenge how someone else rates any movie? That's a mighty high opinion you have of yourself.

reply

It's their decision not to like something.

It's not a decision.

.......and?

And people such as yourself shouldn't get anal because others don't like a movie you do.

shouldn't get anal
The "anal" defence is just anal.

reply

It's not a decision!! People don't decide not to like a movie. It's based on an opinion. And in my opinion this is a bad movie.

You love this movie. Fine. You're entitled to your opinion as are those of us who disagree with you. Your opinion is not worth more than those who don't agree with you.

reply

If people don't like the movie and explain why then fine, that's their right;people make a living as film critics doing that. But if they proceed to dismiss and degrade other people who enjoy it then they're in the wrong.

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

reply

I'm not a professional movie critic and I don't have to explain myself to you. But ok fine: I hate talking cgi animals. Especially when they are poorly animated. I'm sick of movies filled with cgi characters and cgi backgrounds. I'm sick of this fake computer crap. I hate how boring the movie is and how bad the kid playing Mowgli is. I hate that they spend 175 million dollars on a movie that looks this bad and that they can't decide if they want a serious movie or a comedy and so it fails at both attemnpts. There

All better now?

reply

Then why watch the movie??? I am sure that you saw a trailer first, I do, to check out the movie...it was very entertaining. Yes, my opinion, the acting was good and the movie was funny, like all the other CGI animal movies that I knew about before I watched the movie...

reply

This was my problem half of the movie was dark then its trying to be fun and light hearted. That and as much as I like walken, he was awful. But so was murry. Neither of them worked as king louie and baloo. I felt like they were cast just to give the movie some star power.

Personally I gave it a 3/10because I didn't mind the CG.

I could not agree with you more!!!! Well stated. MAGICAL is the best way to describe this movie. Although I came out of the theater thinking 'MASTERPIECE'!!

I wonder what's wrong with these people. They appear super nitpicky and spoiled for starters.

silly film, talking animals and what not. Simple minded American's will love it though.

reply

Rudyard Kipling was a British/English author, you prat. As were C.S. Lewis (Narnia), J.R.R. Tolkien (Hobbit), A.A. Milne (Winnie the Pooh), Kenneth Grahame (Wind in the Willows), Richard Adams (Watership Down), Lewis Carroll (Alice in Wonderland) George Orwell (Animal Farm) and Beatrix Potter (Peter Rabbit) – and they all wrote some of the most famous books about "talking animals" ever to be written. For you to simply pass off a whole genre of fantasy and children's stories as "simple minded" really says more about you than Americans. Pretentious and unimaginative. You must have led a boring childhood because you're not much of an adult. In fact, glancing over your comments history, you're a complete prick and a pervert.
