randomly thrown in just as homage to the disney cartoon in a half hearted attempt to give the parents something to enjoy while their kids are enjoying the rest of the movie. nope. doesn't work, vocalists are very poor. disney used to get singing voices for their characters... now they're bucking to walken cause he's on death's door.

No I think there was a reason. This was based on the animated version of the Jungle Book not so much the book. So actually I think there was every reason to have the songs in because that's what everyone remembers about the original are the songs. Also they didn't necessarily have to have good voices it's not like it was a musical and I thought the voices were fine.
