Looks phony and forced...

reply

Patricia Heaton is conservative, but she's for gay rights.

reply

...interesting...

reply

Yeah, it's called being a moderate, I know that is hard concept for many Republicans but you can believe in certain things that are considered "liberal" and still be "conservative"

reply

At least not where I'm from...

If that's true then you're from a really messed up place.

Some of us can have political opinions AND be friends with people who have different opinions. It drives me crazy when people assume that you can only be friends with people who like the same politician/salad dressing/football team.

reply

I don't understand it either. I know several people who believe in diff politics, root for diff sports team, etc etc and it doesn't bug me. I do find that people from the left always seem less tolerant than people from the right. It cracks me up since people form the left always tout themselves as more tolerant.

reply

I never understand when people think it's shocking when people from opposing political or religious beliefs get along. It's no big deal. It's called living in a society, people. And it's a game show. They are there to entertain and have fun. Who cares about their personal lifestyles or beliefs? It's a game show.

So Jane is only "claim"ing to be a lesbian?
Wonder if her wife would agree with that?!?!
;-)

reply

[deleted]

No, I was making a comment about your use of the phrase "claim", which implies that she only "claims" to be one, not that she *IS* one. Your reply makes the same implication by using the phrase "she says". Both imply that you have doubts about whether she is or not.
My point was that it's not a claim, it's a fact, which she proved by going so far as to marry her (now ex-)partner.

Oh, I think he reads you just fine. I'm more interested in this sentence of yours.

Should my kind not be "chummy" with those that claim to be homosexual for some reason?

Wow. I think it speaks volumes all by itself...none of it good.

On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?

If someone said, "He claims to be married," the vast majority of people would interpret that as meaning that the person speaking felt there was some doubt as to the person's actual marital status. Saying she "Claims to be a Lesbian" suggest that you think it is either a lie for publicity or something or a "phase" she will outgrow.

I do not have attention deficit disor...Ooh, look at the bunny!

reply

I'm not sure what your kind is, but it's OK, I would still be chummy even if you claimed you were straight; even though it would be fairly difficult for me to believe.

reply

[deleted]

I don't claim to be anything, but even if I did say I am "straight" why would that be so hard to believe? More importantly, why does such a thing even matter so much?

I have no clue why it matters. This is your train of thought with reference to her claiming to be a lesbian. Why does it matter so much?

You did nothing wrong. As far as I can tell you are far more tolerate than most. Yet some posters on here are trying to dissect every single thing you say. You are promoting accepting people for who they are and not how they chose to live their private lives. I got to be honest... Wood-20 saying "I would still be chummy even if you claimed you were straight; even though it would be fairly difficult for me to believe." seems sort of like a personal attack.

Sexual orientation shouldn't matter. By "my kind" I guess you mean conservative and you found it funny that people thought that meant you couldn't be friends with some that had different views. Your "cootie" comment was clearly poking fun at the very notion. Just wanted you to know there was a least one person in this topic that knew exactly what you meant.

I agree. TFB.

I dunno whether it's because the arts are traditionally more left sided but people seem aghast when a famous person is Republican.

It's maybe just me too but my view is that Democrats seem far more put out when someone says they're a Republican than the other way round.

Even moderate Republican's can be demonised for simply stating their belief.

You're right about the labels in this day and age. The internet has given rise to a polarised belief set and because everyone can have a "public" voice they think they're correct.

reply

I love when people think Democrats and Republicans are going to fist fight as soon as they walk in the same room

We used to make sh-t in this country. Build sh-t. Now we put our hands in the next guys pocket.

reply

I don't know why conservatives and liberals can't be friends. I'm conservative and have liberal friends.

reply

No a libertarian is even farther right than conservatives. Conservatives believe in less government involvement in our lives and libertarians believe in even less (moving towards anarchy). Whereas liberals believe that government should dictate a large part of our lives. To the left of that is socialism and even further left is communism. So from left to right you have: communists, socialists, liberals, moderates, conservatives, libertarians, anarchists.

reply

Imdb should be for discussing shows and actors....not politics.

reply

I don't know if you would call libertarians further right than conservatives....I don't think you know what you are talking about.

Libertarians are against capital punishment, pro-gay marriage, pro-choice, pro-drug, pro-prostitution, anti-current prison system, anti-war...

Hmmm...does that sound far right to you??? Not one bit actually...

reply

Heaton may be pretty right wing, but she's been a vocal supporter of gay rights. Don't be so quick to judge

reply

Schwarzenegger is ever further to the right, and he vehemently opposed Proposition 8 in California.

I'll also add Angie Harmon to the list. She's not as conservative as Heaton, but is still a Republican and supports gay rights.
