Why is Hank Schrader suddenly comic relief ?

All his scenes in episode 4 were cringy as hell. Especially the "culvert" bit.

We're in an earlier time period for his character.This is the more wise-cracking,macho Hank of BB S01,before his shootout with Tuco,El Paso & the PTSD.

This is how Hank was pre-Tuco. Awkward funny, yet not funny, though funny when it annoyed Walt.
