I don't get the scene with the underground explosion and the semi, what were they doing?

Were they timing it so that the semi drove over that piece of metal when the blast went off to...keep the piece of metal from flying up?
Were they trying to create noise to cover the explosion? A semi driving over a metal plate?
A lot of build-up in that scene...it'd be nice to know what all the tension was about lol

reply

Noise to cover the explosion. They were trying to blow up a big rock.

reply

Oh, well...okay. Really? An explosion that could be muffled with the sound of a semi driving over a plate in the road? I believe ya, it just...doesn't sound like it'd be much of an explosion then.
Maybe a testament to how careful these guys are...to the extreme like that.

reply

yes. also removes the visibility of the plate venting the explosion, hazard to any bystanders.

also, a one-man job, with minimal exposure.

though, i'd have expected more than one vent. also, dont know why they could be certain the plate would just drop back right into place. :)

visually it was pretty cool.

reply

they were certain because of German engineering.

reply

all i can say is, its a good thing there aren't billions of germans, because then we'd all be sprichten der deutsch, all the comedians would be irish or mexican, all the delis run by turks, demand for pianos/accordions/brass instruments would sky-rocket.

and who would want that, other than the irish, mexicans, turks, whites, etc?

reply

If memory serves, the superlab was deep underground. Possibly deep enough to muffle the sound, with the help of the semi. Also, a good demolition expert could place explosives that get the job done with a minimum of noise. Anyway, those are my theories.

reply

They timed it so that Tyrus would drive right over the blast site right when they were blasting so that they could muffle the sound.

reply

There's really nothing going on this season. They had to manufacture tension.

reply

That's what that was, huh? Manufactured tension. They all took a sigh of relief when, in reality, had things gone wrong, the worst case scenario was the sound of a muffled explosion...
The music got all intense..everybody's face pinched...and all for something that was kind of a non-event to begin with lol

That's what was confusing to me. Was sure I was missing something, that there was more to that scene. Guess not!

reply

I wish they could have bothered to at least blow up a fake rock. Seeing the actual thing and the effects of it would have given the scene more impact. Instead we got a little poof of dust from a curtain.

This show can be frustrating sometimes.

reply

Worst case scenario some bystander will notice a random underground explosion and report it to the authorities and when they go down to inspect the place the whole project would get busted. You seem to think this was a big deal of an event but really it wasn't, they say they have been blowing up rocks before so this was just one more day, the point of this scene was actually to show the main german guy starting to lose his shit as he was afraid to die when fixing the explosives.
