Ugliest cast?

Not that it necessarily matter, but I've come to realize that this show is probably more devoid of attractive people than any show I can think of.

I find Kim attractive. She's a bit past her prime like most women approaching 50, but she still got it.

Mike's daughter-in-law is fine too.

reply

Sure -- I'm not going to be an asshole and say Kim, Jimmy for some, etc. aren't attractive at all. They are more than 5/10, i.e. better than average. But I stand by the observation that the show lacks the typically attractive type of person that is included in nearly every show, 8-10/10.

reply

Be nice. She's approaching 45 (in two days).

reply

I find it refreshing. Both BB and BCS have shown plenty of "average" looking people and I enjoy it. BB and BCS are meant to be more "grounded" and "gritty" shows and this only works in their favor.

reply

I think Bob Odenkirk is incredibly attractive

reply

I respect that (see my second post, above). It doesn't negate my point, however.

reply

He looks just like Kevin Costner

reply

The Sopranos, Fargo, Sherlock, The Wire... lot of the best shows have average to ugly looking people... in fact, I'd say it's a more of a red flag with regard to the show's quality if the people are good looking. That should be the topic... name a great show where everyone in the cast is beautiful.

reply

That should be the topic? Umm...ok. Hey _Better Call Saul_ watchers! Name a great show where everyone in the cast is beautiful! lol

Yes, we get the idea that highly attractive people are less likely in life and therefore they make a show, in some eyes, more "fake." This is like when Britons are jealous of American teeth and try to convince them that their jacked up mouths "have more character." (just kidding)

The point is, if you watch Sopranos, [at least in the female department] you'll see some of the smokingest babes of all time. Ever girlfriend of Tony's was amazing. Not saying that's good or bad. I will say that they didn't make the show into a USA Network bimbo show.

Gilligan can still be gritty and real and throw us a bone now and then. Maybe it's just because no one in the show is under the age of 45 except Mike's granddaughter!

reply

The women at the Bada Bing were hideous... I suppose once in awhile Tony would date an attractive woman but you'd have to wade through hours of story before they'd pop up.

My suggestion... watch the good shows, and keep a separate tab open with either porn or the Daily Mail right next to it... that way if your attention span strays you can look at pretty women for a few minutes then go back to the program.

Of course I enjoy seeing a show that has some beautiful actresses and is high quality, but my main priority is watching a good program.

reply

You're not actually reading what I'm writing, are you?

You've got this "good programs" narrative in mind and you're filling in gaps of not reading by imagining and assuming.

reply

No, I agree Mrs. Kettleman was attractive... As a man, it would be nice if say... Jimmy's secretary was a hottie... but speaking for myself... it doesn't matter if the women are attractive unless the plot somehow requires a beauty. For example, when Maggie Gyllenhaal replaced Katie Holmes in the Dark Knight... it bothered me because Rachel was supposed to be a woman who captivated Gotham. Maggie is a better actress, but she made no sense in that particular role. If Jimmy were covering a case surrounding the world of beauty pageants... then yes I would expect to see beautiful women... but since he's doing elder law and dealing with meth dealers, I don't really care what they look like.

reply

Yes, it's about talent isn't it? When I go to Broadway shows, the talent is stunning. And yet the same Broadway actors are reduced to playing walk-on roles or supporting parts on TV or Movies. Too often the reason is that they aren't the right "type" of look. It's a pity. We can't all be cookie cutter beautiful.

reply

Yup, the "cookie cutter" straw-man.

I'm not talking about whether BCS is a good show or not, and there's no need to get defensive about one's crooked British teeth.

I'm proposing that BCS's cast as a whole is perhaps the least attractive (in colloquial language, "ugliest") of any show I can think of (and despite the fact that there are shows of great quality and integrity that do also have the occasional highly attractive cast member).

What I suggest might be interesting about this observation, if it is true, would be something more interesting than confirming the boring idea that, in the tv production and acting world, "talent" and quality tend to be inversely proportional to attractiveness and artifice.

Maybe BCS is just a show designed, by Gilligan et. al.'s vision, to exclude highly attractive people, or to include lots of elders, etc.

reply

kim is pretty

reply

I don't know, the two main actors aren't the hottest but they are both what I'd consider above average. You have to consider that the show is mainly a drama and due to the current plots, there is no real need to have super attractive actors/actresses to play any role.

Most shows will either have plots that require some amount of really attractive actors/actresses or the type of show may need really attractive leads and/or supporting actors to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Then there are some that are the opposite based on the premise like 'Mike & Molly'.

Madame Secretary is probably similar in that most of the main actors aren't super attractive (at least in 2017) although one of the supporting actresses is very attractive.

The actresses that play Erin, Mrs. Nguyen, and the court scheduler just fell out of their chair when they read your post!

Kim is pretty gross looking. I don't get the love for her. That voice is really what kills it though, if she sounded a little more like, god help me, Kellyanne Conway or something, it might help but she sounds so mannish.

No one is uglier than Chuck though- a lumpy piece of crap. If he git his hair close-cropped it would look better but that mustard-dyed swirl he's got going on to pretend he isn't bald just looks ridiculous.

reply

Sorry, OP. I don't see it. There are a few characters who look like they've had a hard life -- and therefore were cast for their particular role -- but overall everyone just seems normal. Frankly, I'm sick of shows where everyone is young and fit and attractive. I watch a few eps and then go, nope, not for me. When a cast is all 30-somethings who look like models, I'm outta there.

BCS has perfect casting and the casting director should get an Emmy. (Do they give Emmies for casting? Well they oughta.) Other shows on now with great casting: Fargo, Preacher, & Brockmire. Geem maybe that's why I like them so much.

reply

I agree, dt123. Bob Odenkirk is so funny and charming and that makes him very attractive to me. He may not be classically handsome but he's good looking. I think Kim is very good looking. She has beautiful eyes and a great figure. Also I agreed with your opinion about the cast in general, it's perfect.

reply

dt123 didn't say that Odenkirk was very attractive and that Kim is very good looking, so I don't know what you're agreeing with. They said that they were "normal," and implies there was something unappealing about shows that have "all" (which I interpreted as "too many") attractive cast members, though without specifying whether this factor is independent from the actors' other qualities. So yeah, wonky British teeth have character and I love British teeth.

reply

Oops! I thought it was inferred by his/her approval of the actors. I was projecting my opinion!

reply

It happens. I like Saul from breaking bad. He had charisma and was funny

reply

No worries, your opinion is valid!
I'm not impressed by Kim, but the subjective differences of opinion in this aspect is actually relevant to this topic, so go for it.

reply

"Frankly, I'm sick of shows where everyone is young and fit and attractive."

Because the only two choices are BCS' fugly cast and a cast where everyone is young, fit, and attractive. And of course you'd choose the former. So honorable! So much integrity!

How many times do I have to say that rating BCS (which obviously we all enjoy and rate pretty highly) is not part of this, and there's no need to work this into some framework of value like where Americans' good teeth mean they are shallow idiots and Britons' crap teeth give them intelligence and character? Did I or anyone else complain about the casting? No. The observation is that if you compare the BCS cast AS A WHOLE to other shows -- even shows that both and I would likely rate very highly -- people would find it amongst the least attractive. "Normal" as many may be, that averages out to less attractive than the vast majority of other shows. Can you name a bunch of shows that have a more homely cast?

reply

We don't need to name shows with homely casts. It's just stupid. We're all fine with this cast, and no one seems to agree with you that they are ugly. Repeating: I don't think they're ugly. I think they're totally normal. Some old, some young, some fat, some skinny.

As far as shows where everyone is young and fit and attractive - there are plenty of those, and they're pretty sub-par. (Hawaii-Five-O, Bones, etc etc) I think we're all wondering why you think the cast is ugly, or even why to mention it.

btw, folks, I'm a she.

reply

The troll is full. You have all fed it well. I will now give it dessert.

Jimmy's secretary is hot. He thinks so too. In BB he hits on her, and calls her honey-tits. He tried to get her to go out with him and after she turned him down, he says "youre killing me with that booty".

Page, kims friend, is super hot. When she first appears in the show she walks in to HHM(if i remember correctly) with this incredible walk. I was like "What a woman!".

Kim is elegant and lovely.
Her character is extremely attractive. In a world where any girl can have fake hair, chest, and everything else, character is what sets them apart.

Now on to Chuck. The character is what we hate and makes him not attractive, but the actor is Michael Mckean. He is super talented (by far the best actor on the show) and a very handsome man. He is older now but was known for his mopping charm with women when he was young.

But noone really comes close to jimmy's secretary. I really have to mention her again. Not as much here in BCS as in BB. Shes only the best... with just the right amount of dirty. She looks like she knows stuff. Like stuff that would blow your hair back(or off). In fact, i think saul in BB knows that. Her "overtime" is responsible for making him lose his hair. But i bet it was worth it. She really does kill me with that booty.

reply

No it doesn't matter, and this topic wore itself thin back when IMDB ran the message boards.

Now that we have this out of the way...how 'bout them feet on Kim when she parked them on Jimmy's knees? Delectable, no?

I'd lick those corns, if that was the only lady part available.
