Why Did Andreas Choose to...? (Spoilers)

Why did Andreas choose to stay on the island? I know they were fighting and so on... BUT it was really strange that he ran away when he saw a plane. Also, all the others ignored him and Slim told the helpers that there was no one left. I think there was no need to lie about it just because there was tension between them. They shouldn't have done this to him. Weird.
