I find this movie very interesting with suspenseful plots. However just wondering why they not simply cut the umbilical which cause stuck upon floating the bell? Or perhaps someone could explain this for my closure. Thank you.
sharePerhaps the umbilical that was causing them to be stuck was much thicker than the ones they used with the suits when they went into the water. It looked like they only had that one knife.

That have crossed my mind although most diver submarine or ROV have auto release hatch (umbilical) upon stuck. Nevertheless I still love the movie.

The severed umbilical that trapped them was a VERY thick trunk of cables from the ship to the bell, nothing like the bell to diver umbilicals. The ship to bell umbilical I would assume was designed strong enough to haul the entire bell, as well as comms, power etc.
I do agree there would probably be a simple disconnection of it from the bell as an emergency precaution or even for maintenance.
