Release date

When will the sound and the fury be released? The January 1st date is inaccurate.

I've seen the movie and can pretty much guarantee it will never get a wide release. It is so weird and such a mess that I cannot see any studio distributing it widely. It showed at some festivals and got overwhelmingly bad reviews which means there isn't much of a future for it. Sorry!

How would you compare it to As I Lay Dying (2013)? I think it also got bad reviews but it interested me because I like Faulkner.

There was a 1950's adaptation with Yul Brynner: The Sound and the Fury (1959) but it skipped what I consider the most important part of the story. It also changed Yul Brynner's character from a southerner to something else to explain his accent.

Maybe Faulkner is only remembered by literature professors and students. Recently I met a southerner through work who appeared to be well-educated and I mentioned Faulkner to him and he looked at me at if I were speaking some foreign language.

I actually didn't see that one so I can't compare the too. But it came and went largely unnoticed so I guess that pretty much sums it up. This will suffer the same fate, probably in part for the reasons you have stated.

I'm a Southerner, born and bred. I've heard of William Faulkner. There ya go.

If that. Dude, I'm telling you, if you want to see this, set your expectations low. And I like Franco a lot.
