Stephen Rea

I thought the acting was top notch throughout the eight episodes. The show is going to win a lot of trophies. However, I think they should start engraving Stephen Rea's name on the hardware from the Golden Globe, BAFTA, Emmy and Blockbuster (sic). He simply owned every scene in which he appeared. He sure has come a long way since 'The Crying Game.

Agreed, remarkable actor.

His character was a lot less scary in this than in The Shadow Line!

Don't be late, don't hesitate, this dream can pass just as fast as lightning.

I'd be willing to sit through another 8 hours of him at an earlier stage in his MI-6 career.

And who's heart also stopped at the road crossing?

I thought the same thing. I want to watch more with him in it. What a great actor.

reply

A brilliant actor, really.
I'm just sorry that he is not used more. He can do both, bad and good characters and be 100% believable.

reply

He's also pretty good in a comedy film from the late 90s - Still Crazy. A very versatile actor.

Well, I got off my butt and finally watched The Crying Game this weekend. Someone spoiled it for me with the reveal when it came out, so it just fell off the queue. I do have to say that I'd love to see a show with Rea as the dad and Chris O'Dowd as his son. I never did get my other dream team of Jack Nicholson as the dad of Christian Slater.

Loved the Crying Game. He should have won for that. And so should Jaye.

His beggar-ish looks disguising his sharp analytic wits sure worked for me this time. He dominated every scene he was in with his doggy poker face.

reply

JRConsidine: Exactly my thoughts on Stephen Rea. He stood out amongst all the others. His was a subtle performance, starting out as a beaten under dog and ending as the sleuth who orchestrated the final outcome.

Agree with all of you. And for those that have never seen it, Stephen Rea gives a tour de force performance in "Citizen X". Forever my favorite role of his.

reply

ario32, I agree -- he was incredible in Citizen X! Also my favorite performance. For those with Netflix, it comes up occasionally on Instant Watch; otherwise, definitely worth a rental fee.

reply

He was my favorite in this. His timing was perfect. What an absolute joy to watch his performance.
