So Nessa and Atika are in love, right?

I mean, didn't Nessa at least pretty much say that she had been in love with Atika from the moment she first saw her?

"Give me the ball."
- Baseball Bat Man, The Raid 2

reply

When did she say that?

In the first few episodes though I genuinely did think that they were either secretly lovers, or had at some point in the past been lovers.

reply

I did too. But that certainly certainly diminished as it progressed!

It's an ordinary high school day. Except that it's not.

reply

I think it was one way - when Nessa says that, Atika replies to the effect that she knows, but she's sorry (i.e. she didn't feel the same way - or not in any sexual way).

Yes - Nessa loved Atika. Though it's not clear that she desired a sexual consummation. Also it seemed that Nessa felt bereft of love and in need of sexual release for the entire piece.

Atika did not love Nessa. Though she did have a deep regard for her.

Remember in E8:

"Do you need me to die Atika?"

"Me? No. But if it's the price of a nation. Then - yes."

There was a long pause while Atika watched Nessa accept that judgement and become reconciled to it before she went on to say "But now we need to to be alive."

Well she did say "You could have chosen me." after she found out Atika was sleeping with her brother (ep. 5)

I definitely got the sense on several occasions that Nessa and Atika had some sort of romantic thing going on.

It's a shame writers didn't explore a little more their relationship cause you could tell there was a unique connection between them.
You could see when Atika and Nessa talk to each other Atika often looks at Nessa lips and there was one scene where I think Atika body language says what she doesn't(in the episode 3 when Nessa knocks on Atika's door, she says 'Ou Atika' and goes for a hug but at that moment I think Atika thought Nessa was going for a kiss and she didn't object it,but Nessa just wanted some comfort after what she have done)
Nessa was open about it while Atika kept herself more reserved.I think she did have feelings for Nessa but she was holding it back to herself.Probably because the way her family was killed by Stein bombs and while she is supposed to feel hate toward this family she found herself in a strange position to actually develop feelings for Nessa but didn't know how to express and what to do with it.

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.

She's trying to integrate her turbulent life experiences into her sexuality to make her own peace with it so she tends to gravitate towards people who make her feel safe in the grips of danger, to save her from herself. Hence her flirtation with her bodyguard, Nathaniel, and her seduction of her other bodyguard (the one that worked for MI6 I think?), and, of course, her attachment to Atika. When she deviates from that, she finds herself in danger (her second rape) because her maladaptive coping mechanisms leave her so vulnerable so I think it gives her the illusion of romantic love for the people who don't abuse or betray her. She's very dependent and uncharacteristically loose with those people, Atika included, because they're like her elixir to all the harshness of her life. But I wouldn't necessarily call that love...

reply

Nope, the MI6 guy she seduced to test him. She knew someone will probably use this opportunity to try to send their guy in place of her previous bodyguard and this was her method to weed them out. She obviously found him hot though in addition to that, hence the "Tell him thank you" lol.

reply

Of course what the other poster wrote about integrating her life experiences into her sexuality has validity. How do you just write "nope" as if there is only way to see or interpret the situation?
