Leland Orser Is Awesome In This

This isn't really a star-making vehicle, but I do hope Orser gets some recognition and more high profile roles from this. I guess he's mostly known for small character actor roles, but he was a perfect lead in this movie.

I agree he was great. There's many character actors who do just amazing work but always seem to be stuck in these types of roles and never turn into a star. Loved the film.

Agree with OP. Orser turned in a great performance here. Character actors are always doing theatre to pay the bills but they end up developing overall much better acting chops because of it. This movie is a case in point.

He reminded me so much of a younger Gabriel Byrne with the voice of Eric Roberts! Both great actors BTW; I hope he finds the same success in the near future.

Yes, Orser was terrific in this - hard to watch at times, in a good way, but compelling. I also hope he gets more leading roles

reply

Oh, yes, I completely agree ... in fact, I came on here mostly to say that somewhere. He was a revelation.

Actually he has quite a resume, including many or all of the Taken films, Se7en and even Private Ryan. Since I haven't had the privilege of seeing the Taken films yet, and I don't recall him in the other two, it was like he had come out of nowhere for me. He is also married to Jeanne Tripplehorn, and was previously married briefly to Roma Downey. So he's got quite a resume there, too.

Not only did I relate to his quirky, sometimes crazy character, but I enjoyed watching some of his business, as they call it in the biz, I do believe. I have begun to notice that a little more; it distinguishes a cardboard performance from a good one, and, in his case, probably is something inspired he does. I don't know how much business is something actors think up to go with their lines, or is something that just naturally displays itself if they are in the character and living the lines. But, at any rate, he was believable, endearing and maybe not a whole lot of fun to live with when he's doing a role such as this.

I wanted to add my appreciation of Leland Orser.

He was great in this.

I loved the opening scenes.

Leland Orser delivers an outstanding tour de force performance here. Really, despite the strong supporting cast, this is pretty much a one-man show.

reply

I agree. Excellent performance. Great actor

Mary Elizabeth Winstead is fantastic in this as well. Wonderful actress

Just saw him on The Guest and now Faults. He reminds me of John Hawkes. Great indie guys, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead did a great job too!

Yes.
