Good job guys forget about another blockbuster gay movie ever.

Period, you *beep* it up. Its already a limited release, which means distribution does not trust this film because of you idiots protesting. That won´t make a new version of Stonewall that is more accurate, all it will do its that Hollywood wont touch on gay films in a while... They are a box office failure. The budget was too high for this.

Funny how the world switches up in ten years. We go from movies like "Brokeback Mountain" and "Transamerica" that bring people together to the community baring it's teeth over the most ridiculous of things (a trailer here and Eddie Redmayne's casting in "The Danish Girl") and giving anti-equality people ample firepower.

What's wrong with this casting besides his shameless Oscar hunger?

reply

Look online at the numerous people who clearly have no idea what acting is screaming "Transface" at the top of their online lungs and you'll have your answer.

reply

Yeah, Hollywood will not touch LGBT history with a ten foot pole after this debacle.

Why are liberals such crybabies these days? Nothing ever pleases them, nothing is ever good enough, they're only happy if they're pissed off.

Bitching is their only lifegoal. That's why they secretly don't want equality.

reply

They tried to sabotage Silence of the Lambs.

They tried to sabotage Dallas Buyer's Club.

They got Work It, which was probably a lousy show anyway, cancelled after 2 weeks.

And now, if they make any more gay history films after this, they will water down the scripts to appease these fascists.

reply

You forgot "Basic Instinct" and "Cruising".

You left wing nut jobs did that to yourself. If you would treat gay people like everyone else and stop acting like they are higher up and better than everyone else you wouldn't get much backlash.

And all of the criticism was based on a big fat lie:

I am an out loud and proud gay man and I'll continue to fight for gay rights harder than ever before, but I am so done with the lie that is "LGBT." The transgender cause is not the gay cause and it's time to stop pretending it is. GLAAD's board of directors is mostly trans, so you know they won't lift a finger or say a word to defend Roland Emmerich or any of the actors of any color.

It makes me sick to see gay people turning on a gay director because of a series of lies and misunderstandings perpetrated by the enemies of the gay community. This is sabotage. I will believe that to my dying day. And what makes it more sickening is the fact that the same critical establishment that made excuses for other inaccurate biopics that glorified some really awful people chose to pile on this film instead. And it gets even more sickening yet when you consider that Vanity Fair published one of the most hateful, mean-spirited reviews of the film so soon after their "Caitlyn" Jenner cover. And "she" is a marriage equality opponent despite admitting being attracted to men after transitioning.

There will be retribution for this. I will support gay cinema as much as I can, but I will never, ever see another movie or watch another TV with a trans actor or character ever again. And I'll support this movie every way I can. I will buy multiple copies of the DVD and the Blu-ray and give them out as gifts to everyone I know.

And I will never trust film critics' judgement on any movie ever again.

reply

What if they're gay and trans? 8) you're so bitter fam

reply

Most trans people are heterosexual. Heterosexuals led this lynching.

Congratulations, you now sound just like an evangelical christian that boycotts everything associated with "teh gayz".

I was born sick
But I love it

reply

They sabotaged this film, and the gay "community" assisted in that sabotage. For shame.

IMDb really needs to reform its voting system to forbid votes from films that have yet to be released.

What does the LGBT community has to do with this? The film has 31 on MC and 9% on RT. And I don´t think that all critics are part of the gay community. The film is terrible, Emmerich is a director with no talent beyond destroying things. And honestly, I'm glad the movie had this reception. You want to be like right-wing Christians, who are going to watch any film, however bad, just because it fits their agenda? No thanks.

reply

The film was hated before its release if this were a debate, you lost, you are dumb.

reply

ummm, you're really, REALLY wrong. Just wanted to take a sec to point that out to you. If we go and visit www.rottentomatoes.com we find that under the category "All Critics", it got 9%, if we look at the "Top Critics", it got 20% and if we look at the "Audience Score", gave it a whopping 96% who said I Liked It!

Now, as I write this, IMDB has a total of 366 votes. 55.2% of those votes gave it a 1/10. Now let's be honest, giving any movie a 1/10 is nothing more than a protest vote.

Rotten Tomatoes however, has a total of 2,586 votes. Who are they? Oh yeah, the people who gave this movie a 96% I Liked It! rating.

OMFG, I wish you bogans would just crawl back under the rock you came from.

That's my 2 cents and no, you can't have it!

reply

$112,414 from 127 theaters for an location average of $871. You are right, audiences are LOVING it. XD

The person who originated this post is right on the money. The film may have it flaws, but boycotting a gay themed film is a very very very BAD idea. first there is already ample trepidation in wanting to touch, let alone finance any gay theme anything, because for the most part they don't make money...certainly not enough to merit anything beyond micro budgets and once in a while if one brakes out its a fluke. If there is a moderate budgeted gay them film and it flops, you can bet you won't be seeing any moderate budgets coming in a LONG time, LONG time. Lesbian films are even at a more disadvantage for distributors just don't want to caught up the cash to acquire them, let along spend the money to put hem out. and YES Hollywood and any other establishment in the business of showbusiness is about the dollars and cents, if that fails like this film has due to the "boycott" mentality, thats it folks. Gay Cinema will continue to be relegated to micro/no budget films. Don't complain when the quality of gay themed films are subpar to the rest and you wonder why they are made so cheaply, very simple. They are not supported or pirated, they either wont be done altogether, no one will pick them up or they will just continue to be done and relased on a shoe string budget. its just the sign of the times.

reply

Period, you *beep* it up.

It's funny because so many historically inaccurate movies are made, yet they are never 'boycotted' or had this much hate flung at them. Huh.

That won´t make a new version of Stonewall that is more accurate

Incorrect. There are several independent films based on historic events and if you tried, you'd find that there are a lot of them based on the same events as some mainstream historic epics. There are a lot of young and keen directors out there who would probably take this as an opportunity to accurately depict these events. And Independent movies are often less clouded with bullsh!t because there aren't a bunch of business men in large studios that interfere with production because they think they know what will appeal to audiences the most. Instead, independent movies rely on the talent of the director. They are smaller budgeted but you'd be left with a less muddy project (most of the time).

"I'll be your scapegoat, I'll be your savior, I'm the better of two evils."

reply

INDEPENDENT. If this was a debate you just killed yourself. Plus, new implies FUTURE.

reply

Idiocy at its finest. As long as there are rich white gay men in Hollywood, there will be LGBT films.. and they'll continue to be as exclusionary and whitewashed as this fictional retelling of Stonewall. Quit trying to guilt people into accepting measly scraps under the table & being "grateful".

The movie deserves to be a box office failure.. period.

reply

Production stills from this movie are more diverse than photos from the night of the riot.

reply

Thank you. I agree whole heartedly with you. What a bunch of azzholes. I am so pizzed at our community I cant even see straight. I wrote a whole post on this. What a buch of idiots.
