Yeah, those "inept dad" roles just get funnier...not.

"they need their husbands to watch the kids for a few hours ... what could go wrong?"

That is a quote from this sites storyline section. Gee, the inept dads who are, as usual, made to look like brainless twits who can't do the mom's daily routines. Yeah, we know you have to be such a mental giant to drive the kids around, fold laundry, cook, and clean the kitchen etc. (sarcasm). Seriously, I have seen many mom's who, though they do their mom duties well, are far from the sharpest knives in the drawer. I just wish estrogen-worshipping Hollywood would occasionally give the man more brains than the mom/wife character...or at least as much. Many dads are smart enough and more than capable of doing what moms do.

I guess, like many many topics/situations/truths etc, Hollywood doesn't like to portray many things/people as they are or could be. I guess those truths would offend some people. Hollywood's head in the ground, as usual.

These pc-obsessed times are getting old.

This has been a standard Hollywood premise since the 1970s, at least. It's grown tiresome.

I was just thinking the same thing. It's gone far enough. Men are not terrible parents and are not afraid to look after their children. So many of my male friends are tired of seeing men portrayed in a bafoonish, comical style.

Quite right. I agree with you. Even commercials tap into the "inept dad" theme.

Playing devil's advocate, I was reminded during this movie of two of my married friends and how their husbands deal with the kids. One has 3 girls aged 4 & under and the other has two boys aged 5 & under. We went for a morning walk recently and the husband kept calling every 20 minutes with, "When are you coming back?", because he was overwhelmed being alone with his 3 girls for a few hours. I was gobsmacked and hid my annoyance.

Couples really do need to share evenly in the duties of child care. Balance is key. As for the movie, everything was exaggerated and the female lead was overwhelmed by her own doing. She set some absurd standard for herself and labored under her self-imposed expectations. Why let a toddler put on your mascara for you JUST because she howls in your ear? Those kids lacked discipline.

Those kids lacked discipline.

I'm watching it now, and that phrase pretty much sums up this movie. I've enjoyed other Kendrick movies a lot more.

I enjoy "stupid" comedy such as Police Squad! (1982), however along the lines of what the OP said, the people in this movie were portrayed as just stupid or doing really stupid things w/o being funny.

A couple of examples:
You see a police car with lights on in the mirror, so you not only keep driving, you run a red light?

One person raises their voice at the police station, is tasered, and then all 3 are arrested. For what? The police would be bending over backward in the hopes the woman would not sue them.

The best thing about this movie was the 1969 Camaro. It should have been given more screen time.
