This is why the British film industry is a joke!

Seriously, the only films the UK seem release (excluding foreign collaborations) are ones about hooliganism and crappy big screen comics/TV Series like this, Keith Lemon and Fat Slags. It's appalling!

War... War never changes.

reply

While I agree the films you mentioned are appalling, its not very fair to make the assumption that the UK only seem to produce these sorts of films.
I can name many films that are great. The Worlds End, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Four Lions, Alan Partridge, James Bond for goodness sake! There's countless more...

reply

The Bond films aren't really British.

reply

I live about a mile from Pinewood Studios where the Bond movies are filmed, I live just outside London and I'm 99 percent sure I'm British!!

reply

I can't argue with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, though I haven't seen Worlds End yet. Never seen Four Lions and I've never cared for Steve Coogan. As for James Bond? Well, as I said, I don't count foreign collaboration's.

War... War never changes.

les miserables, remains of the day, enemy at the gates, shadowlands, the kings speech, amazing grace, tinker tailor soldier spy, v for vendetta, 28 days later, children of men, equilibrium, sunshine, Bronson, the boxer, who framed roger rabbit, gladiator(a lot of filming in malta but with british crew and filming in britain), trance, Sherlock holmes, Sherlock holmes game of shadows, robin hood, tyrannosaur, the wicker man, hunger, king arthur, flash Gordon, notes on a scandal, enigma, iris, great expectations, kim, son of rambow, charlotte gray, johnny English, in bruges (made in Belgium by the british film industry) monty pythons meaning of life and holy grail, krull, alice in wonderland, franklyn, clone, the other Boleyn girl, the libertine, chicken run, harry brown, four weddings and a funeral, withnail and I, the eagle, dog soldiers, bright young things, jane eyre.

and yes movies made in Britain by the british industry and british talent should still be counted, as that is still the british film industry being hired for what they can do, without those people making it, it would not be the same and therefore may not have been successful, many of them get forgotten that they are british made, ie batman begins/dark knight, guardians of the galaxy, star wars, indianna jones, alien(s) saving private ryan, moon, the mummy, full metal jacket(no none of it was in Vietnam, all the uk), kick-ass, the jacket, lolita, empire of the sun, every james bond film, k-19 the widowmaker(everything inside the submarine with exterior shots in Canada), pirates of the Caribbean, tomb raider, sky captain and the world of tomorrow, thor dark world, Memphis belle, clash of the titans, immortals, alien vs predator, muppet treasure island, muppet Christmas carol, muppets most wanted, gravity, bugsy Malone, eyes wide shut, the fifth element, little shop of horrors, mission:impossible.

this is just what I can think of sitting here now, the british film industry cannot ever be Hollywood, but it is very good and going strong.

Snatch, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Trainspotting, Lawrence of Arabia, This is England, Room for Romeo Brass, Dead Mans Shoes.

All really good films, you're talking sh!t. As a Metal Gear Solid fan you really need to up your film IQ. You clearly haven't seen many.

reply

Though I've never seen Lock Stock and Snatch, they're typical gritty UK films. This is England was total bollocks, same old hooligan sh£t. Lawrence Of Arabia is an old film and thus, is an exception. Dead Man's Shoes was ok but again, typical British hooligan fare.

You clearly haven't seen many films

For someone who's only been a member of imdb since 2011, you're in no position to make that assumption. I don't see how MGS is anything do with this either.

War... War never changes.

reply

So you think the longer you've been a member of IMDB the more films you've seen? Haha.
I promise you I have seen many films of all genres and eras. It sounds to me that you just don't like British realist films, which is a personal problem, it's not that British films aren't good, British films do rely heavily on grit and realism. But you can't really just moan about an entire genre there is definitely an audience for it.

I misread your quote, It reminded me of MGS 4 what Snake says (War has changed) but its the Ron Pullman narration from Fallout 3, love that game.

reply

I've been a member a fair while and longer than you, and you're talking rubbish.

Every country produces crap - fact of life.

Don't forget to include Richard Curtis-esque rom-coms, period dramas starring Keira Knightley, Cockney gangster films with Ray Winstone, and anything cockney starring Danny Dire...then is is the list of English films all they ever do

reply

[deleted]

American films have sucked just as bad lately, its all remakes, reboots, sequels or prequels.

The entire movie industry is a dire state because no one is willing to try something original these days!

reply

[deleted]

They are hardly original

reply

[deleted]

Richard Curtis wrote films that did well in the US?

Americans are dumb, or those films are good?

reply

There are many good British films but OP is not wrong about crafty cockerney hooligangster films being churned out at a high rate.
