Small detail that got to me

If you own a cast iron frying pan, you will get this.
olive made 2 grilled cheese sandwiches in a cast iron and then put it in the sink and scrubbed it!!! NO NO NO!
She even abused her lovely frying pan.
For those who aren't familiar with cast iron, you just DONT do that! And if you've never had one, get one. You will never want to fry ANYTHING in a crappy non-stick again.

I noticed this too - but only because she had a canister of mortons salt next to the sink which she poured into the plan (without water) and scrubbed!

reply

Ya, I guess if she didn't use water it would be ok...

reply

I scrub mine all the time and they are slicker than owl-sh*t. I just don't use soap...never ever ever. I just use a nylon scrub brush and hot water.

reply

Well, it's just that every time you expose your cast iron to water, you have to go through the whole pan seasoning process in the oven because otherwise iron rusts like hell. If you don't mind going through that regiment every time you wet it...then power to you.

reply

Just dry your pans after cleaning? Mine never rust. Hot water and a nylon brush aren't going to do anything to a good seasoning. Soap is the only enemy of the seasoning. So you never rinse your cast iron pans out? That's pretty disgusting.

reply

So an old used scrub brush and water sanitizes your pan? I find that practice disgusting.
What you do is heat up the pan and scrape it out with a clean wooden spatula. The heat liquifies any grease and loosens debris. And you give it a good scrape out. And the heat sanitizes it.
Then about every 3rd or 4th use - you wash it with warm soap and water and season it.
You assumed what I do. And you know what they say about people who assume right?

reply

And if you bother to read my OP, it is referring to full out washing it after a simple, dry GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH. Are you commenting on shows that you haven't even watched? Good god.

reply

Show? I registered here to find other people that use cast iron pans. You were the first one I found and now you've broken my heart.
