Duel

Third story, Road Tale reminded me of Steven Spielberg film Duel. I liked it.

yup, even some shots reminded me to Duel. This was more action-oriented, though.

reply

Yes, I agree. I was a child when I first saw Duel in the 80s. Maybe I should watch it again.

reply

Besides the fact of the road rage, I dont think theres something similar between the two movies. In Wild Tales we get to see both charecters, while in Duel you never see him. Its even questionable if he really does exists.

reply

Yes, of course there are also many differences between two movies. In Duel, we never see the truck driver, and this was the main factor of thriller. But, as far as I can remember, his feet were seen in few scenes.

reply

Yupp, had forgotten that. But I am sure there are many theories on this on the Duel imdb board. Some people even considered the truck driver a representation of Mann opposite, of what everything he couldnt actually do or be. Great movie anyways.

When the guy in the car first passed the beater and swore at him I thought, "Duel", but that's where the similarity ended.

reply

This one left me feeling sad because white guy didn't deserve what he got

reply

To be honest, the "hillbilly" WAS being a jerk first by swerving purposely from lane to lane to cut the guy off, he clearly started it. While Mr. Audi should've just blown him off, yes, that @$$#ole DID start it by purposely being a jerk.

This story in particular reminded me of Latin American new wave cinema.

You got to look at it as the audio guy represents the new forward moving globalized Mexico and the rising middle class and the "redneck" represents the old backwards Mexico and the world before the globalization and capitalism.

The fight between then is a societal commentary on the tug a war between the old Mexico and the new globalized Mexico. In the end they both die in a "crime of passion". A very fully episode in the film.

Can this really be the end..to be stuck inside of mobile
with the Memphis blues again.

reply

That's a good point. It makes much more sense taking your comment into account.
