GERMAN WINGS CRASH - OPENING SEQUENCE

Very unfortunate, the nearly identical crash happening just three days before the UK release... there was stony silence during the opening scene in the cinema, it struck an unpleasant chord.... the whole place was thinking of one thing.

Great film though, everyone warmed up eventually... but awful accidental timing over the intro sketch.

the nearly identical crash

Nearly identical? Nah, one thing has nothing to do with the other, in my opinion.

reply

Similar? Yes. Nearly identical? Only if you can show the German pilot knew and had a grievance against everybody on board.

reply

Yeah, that last shot of a plane full of screaming passengers plummeting towards the countryside, whilst the pilot sits there calmly flying it into the ground and his work colleague desperately hammers on the cabin door?

That's NOTHING like the Germanwings crash, HOW could i have been so blind?
HOW could I have possibly thought of that just two days after the Germanwings crash?
HOW could everyone at the screening who glanced at their friends with a 'whoa, unfortunate' response ALL have been so coincidentally wrong at the same time?

How silly we were- if ONLY you had been there to loudly point out that its nothing like the Germanwings crash!!!! I mean, they weren't even German! You would have spotted that right away- the whole cinema would have cheered in relief, you would have been carried out onto the street on the shoulders of a cheering crowd!!

Thanks SO much for clearing that one up- you're a real smart guy.

Was the flight destination even mentioned in the movie? And the one knocking at the door was his psychologist.

reply

He says european countryside and this film is set minly in Argentina. Smh

How about not capitalizing thread subjects you fool?
Who do you think you are?

reply

Actually not all passengers were Germans. There were even 2 Colombians and ,3 Mexicans. No Argentinians although.

reply

Duplicate.

It is very unfortunate. Such a tragic event. Absolutely fantastic movie though. I really want to see it again now that it's expanding wider, but I'm not sure if I'm going to make it since I'm going to be out of town this weekend and when I get back the first movie I want to see is While We're Young.

reply

Only if the German Wings plane was filled with passengers that had all "wronged" the co-pilot and his parents were on the side of that mountain.

reply

My friends and I agree w/ you and had the same reaction to the first scene. It was similar enough to Germanwings to be disturbing. The rest of the movie we liked very much.

reply

Allegedly, the police was trying to find out if the pilot had watched the movie because of the similarity.

reply

@lu_muse_2180 I was wondering the same thing.

In my cinema, there was a note under the movie poster "due to the recent plane crash in the Alps, viewers are advised that some of the scenes in this movie may be disturbing".

It was very chilling, and anyone denying the similarities must be remarkably insensitive. OK so it was a psychiatrist banging on the door not the pilot - but the image of panicking passengers while someone tried to break into the locked cockpit could hardly miss reminding viewers of recent events. Not the film's fault, and I loved it. But disingenuous to pretend there was no similarity!

reply

@eglaisher

No, of course it wasn't the film's fault just kind of weird timing. It is a very clever film.
