It would've been better had there been a link ... even a slight one ...

It's only six short stories put together in a sequence. Period. Some of them are good, some are not... but there's no link between any of them. I wish that there had been "anything" somehow relating a story to another -at least to one of them- ... an invitattion to the wedding, a phone call from the plane, a reference to a friend who had his car jacked, etc etc. This is just a compilation of six separated tales, each one with a "wild" plot, but all in all it was just too easy ...

Well, there's a theme that does link all stories together... which is 'taking justice-getting even' by your own hands, which to me was enough.

reply

Yes, revenge is the running thread through all of them. Just or unjust.

you didnt see the Locknar?

The Locknar? Imagino que haces referencia al Loc Nar, la esfera verde, maligna que hilvana los relatos en heavy metal, o me equivoco?

así es jajaja

This was not meant to be told as one giant story (hence the "tales" in the title). But there are themes that loosely connect all the stories. Each story has humans behaving like badly (wild), each has a surprising ironic twist, and each one has a sense of revenge/karma.

There was the class warfare link that perhaps Argentines understand more.

there is a link, but like someone below said, it's a thematic one and not a plot-driven one. Honestly I think it works better, if the stories had been linked by characters coming in and out it would have seemed cheap.

Actually, it'd have been worse if the director had introduced such "pavadas" just to make people like you happy.

Nah. You could have made fun and simple connections without affecting the plots or the mood. For example, the tow-truck driver that arrives at the river could be the same one that tows the engineer's car in Dynamite. Or that the just-married couple at the end is on Pasternack's plane.

I agree in a way. The film was wildly entertaining and laugh out loud funny at the most disturbing of things. I couldn't say it wasn't entertaining at all... it was very enjoyable and worth watching, but I don't think it worked brilliantly as a film as a whole because of two reasons: 1) some stories were better than others and 2) overall it didn't have much to say. The point was the wild tales individually.

I don't think it needed a direct link between characters/stories, but to be powerful overall as a whole film I feel like it should have had something to say - to leave it's audience feeling and thinking about. Mostly it was just funny rather than really addressing what revenge means for example (though clearly few folks ended up the better for it, haha!!) Individual tales were completely blackly hilarious, but overall I thought the film was just OK.

So I guess I am saying I think it would have been better if it'd had a bit more depth to it overall to make it a whole film with something to say rather than just a collection of ludicrously OTT revenge tales, some more darkly entertaining than others.

The stories are unrelated because people everywhere are animals.
