A pathetic plea for understanding + acceptance.

If one were to give a 12 year child the chance to tell his life story in the format of a one man show, in front of a slick multimedia slideshow, and afforded that child the liberty to spasmodically gallivant across the stage with little to no story telling experience or story structure; relying mostly on casual profanity, poor crowd work & impersonation; all with the ultimate goal of manipulating a simpleton's outlook of his life in a pathetic bid for their understanding & acceptance; the results would be eerily similar to this disaster.

Added Note: Spike Lee must really think very little of his viewing audience if he honestly believes that we can't pick up on his obvious post production techniques. Whenever an audience member supposedly shouts something out it is painfully obvious that these voices were dubbed in in post. Just as it was painfully obvious when a crowd shot was being taken out of context & being peppered in somewhere else to pump up a dull reaction.

Gee how brave and truth telly.

It's so pathetic when people try to gain acceptance by facing up to the wrongs they've done in the past and apologizing for their wrongdoings. Ugh.

When it's done for the sake of turning a profit, yeah it's pathetic.

tl;dr Op is an idiot

Of course, anyone who disagrees with your opinion or outlook on things has to be an idiot. Good luck with that attitude, you'll go far in life.

reply

Aah - you're a psychic! It seems there are a lot of you on the internet.
Of course, being a faux psychic in order to pretend you know the motives of a certain person, is totally not pathetic at all.

reply

Yeah the individual who admittedly claimed to be broke isn't doing all of this in order to earn a buck. Get back to me when you enter the real world.

reply

If I had to give the definition of a 'Keyboard Warrior'
A good case would be the OP

Someone who calls Mike Tyson a simpleton from behind his keyboard.
We ALL know you would not say that to his face.

reply

That’s pretty funny. Whether anyone would give any criticism to the face of Mike Tyson - a bipolar alcoholic who could kill you with their fists - has no bearing on whether the criticism is true.

Just the TRUTH about Mike Tyson is criticism enough - he is a convicted rapist, admitted liar (he admitted just this year having lied for FOUR YEARS about being sober), self-confessed “vicous alcoholic”, and pedophile (he admits having made advances to Teddy Atlas’s 11-year-old niece - that’s ELEVEN YEARS OLD for those who can’t read well). "Simpleton"? Well, he was a heavyweight champion of the world and ended up "destitute" (his words), so he can't be too on the ball. These are not opinions, these are the KNOWN FACTS about the man. Most of the positive reviews here must be from people either ignorant of these facts or those on the film’s production team.

“Do the Right Thing” is a good philosophy - too bad the subjects and characters of Spike Lee’s films rarely do.

reply

"...made advances to Teddy Atlas’s 11-year-old niece..."
Pedophile? He was 15 at the time and it doesn't make it right to grope a 11-year old girl but include all the facts so people can make their own "opinion". We understand you don't like him but let's not fabricate dangerous titles.

reply

Who said anything wasn't true, I simply said the op is a coward.

This is based on the assumption that I wouldn't say this to Mike Tyson's face. I haven't really been given the opportunity to, if I were I'd gladly say these things to his face. If he were to do anything to me it would only prove what a simpleton he is.

reply

Most of what you post in this thread is sensible but saying that you would say all of this stuff to Mike Tyson's face either makes you an idiot or a liar, no offense. The man is an emotionally unstable alcoholic and drug abuser who was well trained to badly hurt people with his bare hands. I imagine you have never had such training. I'm leaning towards liar since you don't seem to be stupid.

Why should I have to fear saying anything to his face? He's a changed man correct?

reply

I personally don't think he has changed that much, no. It's possible that he is but it's not worth the risk just to make some point and anyone who would risk saying something like that to his face either because they think he is a completely new man or because they are trying to make some stupid point is an idiot.

reply

I would say all of these things to Mike Tyson's face, while a camera is rolling.

reply

OK, so only if you and he knew you would capitalize legally if he hurt you would you say it to his face. Less stupid, but given that he is an unpredictable drug and alcohol addict that could kill you with his bare hands if he felt like it, still pretty stupid.

reply

But he's a changed man remember? Didn't you see the one man show?

reply

If you believe he is a changed man because of the cinematic depiction of that show, you are only proving yourself to be an idiot.

No more idiotic than your inability to pick up on obvious sarcasm.

reply

Many people who are called out on their cartoonishly hyperbolic statements on the internet try to pass them off as sarcasm after the fact. Pretty sure this is the case given the progression of this discussion. That said, if you were being sarcastic, it is quite difficult to accurately portray sarcasm in print. Next time, you should be more explicit if you want to be understood.

Thank you.

reply

Not a big fan of Tyson but calling him a pedophile is ignorant. A pedophile is an adult who is sexually attracted to children. Whatever happened between him and that poor girl, he was 15 when it happened. Mike Tyson is A LOT of things, but not a pedophile.

reply

Well..according to the film I just watched...she was 12, and he was 15.

reply

Why should I have to fear saying anything to Mike Tyson's face? Your presumption that he would do something in retaliation to my criticism is more insulting to Mike Tyson than my criticism of his one man show.

reply

I find it very peculiar how people pretend to know what really happened as if they know Mike Tyson or were present during the events you critic.

reply

I know Teddy Atlas, spoken with him many times, I played CYO basketball with his son. From what I've heard, and what his son told me; Tyson did a little more than grab his nieces ass. Believe what you want, of course this animal is going to spin the truth any which way in order to garner sympathy from idiots like you.

reply

"Believe what you want, of course this animal is going to spin the truth any which way in order to garner sympathy from idiots like you."

Always a great way to gather some "kudos", resorting to mindless strawmen.

Even if that were true (you knowing Atlas), and even worse believe his story on Tyson, would make you no better than him (Atlas). Your own credibility, @bakedlogic, far as I'm concerned, might be very close going down the drain for that.

I'd take everything Teddy Atlas has to say about Tyson with at least a bucket of salt... Atlas admittedly wanting to kill Donny Lalonde, threatening ESPN employess, "having homicidal tendencies growing up"...

Good luck with that.
