I assume that much of this is scripted and staged, and there is an
ever-present production crew with medical personnel present.

However, in REAL LIFE, what IDIOT would wade into the waters (swamps, lagoons, oceans), not knowing WHAT is in there that could easily take you down?

The "voice over" always mentions the dangers (snakes, alligators, crocodiles, even sharks), and we're supposed to believe (that these are present) that these people wander into the waters undaunted ? !

In a related point, it seems STUPID not to allow these people some kind of foot ware. With the skin being the first barrier to infection, I'm surprised the lot of them aren't facing serious infections -- and worse.

The last two seasons are better actually. For awhile, they were clearly getting secret assistance from the producers, now they are more open about it. But yeah, it's a TV show.
