Jamie's closest allies....(Spoilers, if you're binge-watching)

Does friendship get any better or more loyal than the likes of Fergus, Murtaugh, and John Grey? Each has proven to be tremendous allies to Jamie.

Murtaugh...Jamie's godfather and guardian, and truly his righthand man. He always had Jamie's back, and it was never better displayed than when he vowed to go down swinging, side-by-side with Jamie at Culloden, even when he had an out. And you just knew, when Jamie asked Murtaugh to go find his daughter's attacker (Bonnett) and bring him in....that Murtaugh was just bad-ass enough to handle it.

Fergus--A very underrated ally--the unsung hero. One small example: When the red coats had that barn they were hiding in surrounded, it was Fergus's idea (to have Claire pretend to faint) that proved to be a strategic difference-maker. It was also Fergus's brilliant idea and quick-thinking when he immediately went to John Grey for help when Jamie was apprehended in Jamaica. Heck, even his wisdom NOT to acquiesce to Jamie's demand to free him on the ship so that they can attempt mutiny that likely saved Jamie's fate. He was also the one who was able to warn Murtaugh not to rob the Governor's wagon, because a trap was waiting for them. It's sad that Fergus lost his hand early in life....because he gets disrespected and undermined for it, yet he has proven time and again to be a cunning and brave ally.

John Grey--One of my very favorite characters. I might attempt to read the books just for more backstory on this guy alone. He is a true and loyal friend to Jamie--and an honorable man. Of the many times he has gone to bat for Jamie, perhaps my favorite was in Jamaica...when the British Captain attempted to take Jamie into custody...and Lord John gave him an epic and systematic dressing down. 10 of my favorite minutes in the series so far. I felt bad for John...when he visited Jamie at Fraser's Rock, only to be met with coldness and skepticism from Murtaugh and even Claire. They should have both given him a warm welcome and many thanks...for all he has done for each of them.

I recently got caught-up with this show via binge-watching. I'd watch one episode per night, with a wee dram of whiskey, and each one was an adventure. It kinda sucks now, having to wait not only a whole week for my next fix....but now, a whole 8 months!

I recently got into this and binged big time!
I was lucky i didnt start earlier , or id have had a weekly wait for the last few S4 episodes!
Those guys have indeed been great allies and friends.
I'm not entirely surprised at Murtaugh's reaction to being reunited with Grey, he knew little of what John had done for Jaime , he was just a redcoat jailer to Murtaugh. (i cant exactly remember when they met though, i dont rember murtaugh being in that jail)
I am surprised at murtaugh starting the whole regulator rebellion thing , at his age! he needs to settle down and chill...

It's interesting....I didn't notice Murtaugh at the jail the first time I watched that episode either. Upon a repeat viewing, he is indeed there, but barely recognizable, and in bad shape. I'm glad I re-watched that timeframe of the show, because I wasn't sure how Jamie and Murtaugh parted ways for so long. Now it makes more sense.

Jamie pulled some strings to get Murtaugh some much needed medical care at the prison, and John Grey obliged. In the episode where Murtaugh sees Jamie at Fraser's Ridge and is rude to him, Jamie reminds him that Grey extended extra care to him, and probably saved his life.

reply

ah ,yes of course. When Jamie got to the prison, Murtaugh had already been in for a while.

You are right about the friendships. He can count himself lucky.
About having to wait. Well... you can always read the books.
The book readers also have to wait for the next book, but it’s still several seasons ahead of the show.

Does Fergus know the secret? He catches on to so many things that it's surprising that he hasn't glommed onto this yet.
