... I figured out why I don't like Claire using "Soldier" as her term of endearment for Jamie. I don't like the way Claire/Cait says it in her accent. I like her accent otherwise overall; it's just this word. It's something about the way she swallows the "d" sound.

Can't recall if you've mentioned your nationality, FnkyChkn34, but where I live, the PNW, we pretty much say 'soldjer' and the d is only very faintly heard. I've never thought of Claire saying the word soldier oddly. I'll have to listen to her again. How would her pronunciation be better or more acceptable? I love hearing the differences between American English and English from various parts of the UK. I keep wondering why we pronounce words so differently-urinal, privacy, again, hurricane, advertisement, premature, lieutenant, schedule, leisure, scone, the list goes on.
Right, the d is like a "j" sound. That's how I (an American) and Jamie/Sam pronounce it too. But Claire/Cait has no "j" sound at all. I think that's what bothers me, and it wouldn't bother me if that's how all people on the show pronounced it too; but with Jamie/Sam pronouncing it how I'm used to hearing it, I think that's why I don't like it.
Like I said - petty and unimportant, but I just realized it so I figured I'd see if anyone agreed. I know other people have mentioned that they don't like her calling him that either.

I don't mind her saying it but I've also found the pronounciation odd, especially since she didn't pronounce it this way the two (?) times she called him so in S1. I wonder if a dialect coach advised her in this instance.
