Do they know . . .

Just wondering if anyone at Starz, Outlander publicity, or cast/crew knows this board exists and if they read it. There's some really good sensible discussion here. There's not the hysteria of Twitter.

reply

Probably.

I believe IMDBs are maintained and/or monitored by reps from who or what the page is about.

Whether they personally read it is another matter.

Hi hannahjamesglasgow,

Starz and all the production entities involved with Outlander are aware of the board since they created it. They are the ones who update the casting information, the crew info and post the images. I'm sure a publicist will check in on the comments too, but I've heard that a lot of industry people stay clear of reading the comments on the IMDB because of so many nasty posters.

reply

Well at least Terry has read or had someone tell her what's been posted here because she's tweeted things that are pretty much a direct response to statements posted here.

I doubt anyone else bothers unless it's right after a new ep has aired to get a feel of the response of the fans.

Hi broughps,

Publicists check for sure, update info and add trivia, bios, etc., but actors don't as a rule and are warned to stay off the IMDB. I spoke to an actor who check his board after a particularly nasty scandal. He'd was advised by his fellow actors and show publicist to stay off, but decided to look anyway. He said he never looked at it again.

reply

I've never thought the actors look here, but others from the show, beyond publicists, sure. Probably not a great deal though.

Hi DigitalDiva!

I hope that most actors stay off most social media--period. I hope their families keep off social media too. Hopefully, actors have someone to monitor it for them. I know I get depressed reading the horrific mysogny on most social media. It's one thing to critique an actor's technique, or to argue that an actor is not effective in the role without getting personal. I love Caitriona Balfe in Outlander, but there are intelligent and knowledgeable posters who intensely dislike her portrayal of Claire. They criticize her performance-- not her value as a human being. Since I'm not a professional actor, I'm sure I miss some of the finer points in an actor's performance. That's why I appreciate the posters who have professional experience in film and TV. Their contributions and professional perspectives make this a worthwhile forum to visit. If I need accurate updates on my favorite shows, I check IMDb first. I'm too busy to spend much time hunting for details online. Thank you to all the people who post links. I appreciate it.

Hi erudite925,

thanks for the lovely words. This is a very interesting forum with a number of passionate posters. It may get testy at times, but unlike other boards on the IMDB, it generally isn't nasty, childish or loaded with misogynistic posts. I return to this board because of the civility I don't find on other boards.

I work part-time for an international entertainment journalistic group and have interviewed a number of actors. The working ones generally don't have time to deal with social media and let their publicists or the publicists for a studio, individual film or television show deal with the IMDB.
