Where's Pepe?

I very much enjoyed this biopic; I am, however, disappointed that what I consider Cantinflas' best English-speaking movie, Pepe (1960) was not mentioned even once.

Also, up to now it hasn't been referred to by any reviewers or commenters on these message boards.

Yes, I know that it's extremely difficult to find copies of it today - I first saw it on its initial release in the cinemas and I'm lucky enough to have a copy transferred to a disc from VHS.

But surely someone other than myself remembers Pepe?

A lot of importance in the biopic was attached to Around The World In 80 Days, partially perhaps because of Mike Todd's inclusion of several top Hollywood actors playing cameos - David Niven, Shirley MacLaine, Marlene Dietrich, George Raft, Frank Sinatra among others.

But Pepe was full of cameos - Dan Dailey, Shirley Jones, Maurice Chevalier, Tony Curtis, Bobby Darin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Jimmy Durante, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Peter Lawford, Janet Leigh, Kim Novak, Donna Reed, Debbie Reynolds. Edward G. Robinson, Cesar Romero, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and others. It's an entertaining film but was given short shrift by the critics.

Despite this, it was nominated for seven Academy Awards.

I'm thinking probably because Pepe was a huge disaster...it flopped at the box office and the American audience could not get his language barrier...After Pepe he went back to making films in Mexico where he had more success even though those films were distributed by Columbia to America

Had this boring movie been a hit that would have been the sequel.

Loved this film.
WHO HAS A FACE AS FUNNY AS PEPE
WHO HAS A SMILE AS SUNNY AS PEPE
WHO'S THE COMICAL LITTLE CLOWN
THERE WITH HIS TROUSERS FALLING DOWN

I saw this about twice in the theater.
I still remember this song. It was written by Andrea Previn and his wife Dory Previn
