This comedy special is old-school stand-up for a bold, new world. Appropriate it is a Netflix original, which seems to be the new frontier for stand-up comedy.
Marc Maron spans the range of his 20-plus years as a stand-up by riffing through a wide range of modern topics. Maron nails every topic with fresh material and a refined sense of rhetoric and stage prescence to deliver one of the few modern stand-up specials to rival the modern master Louis CK.
I agree! But the modern master is Doug Stanhope, not Louis CK(i have nothing against the guy and find him funny but Doug is where its at!)
shareI loved that he didn't really prepare and still nailed it. He was just up there telling funny stories from his life. Loved when he made fun of his "notes".
And the the poster above me, Doug Stanhope is not the king of anything. Settle down. He's a mid-level comic. Not saying that's bad, but when people 100 years from now talk about stand up comedy from the early 2000s they will not even mention him. They will, however, mention Louis CK.
I just watched it on Netflix. Haven't laughed this much in a while, great stuff. I've never seen Maron's standup before, I need to find some more from him.
