No Opportunity for Character Development

My problem with these Groundhog Day knockoffs is that they put too much character development into the side characters. One of the main elements of these movies is the fact that every side character resets at the end of each day. The main character can develop and change, but everyone else cannot.

By the end of this movie, Pete's family was perfectand happy, the grandfather was back in the loop, Pete had a girlfriend, and a whole bunch of other stuff happened that was unrealistic.

For all this stuff to happen, this means that Pete being a brat before the time loop was the only thing holding everyone back.

But Pete wasn't being a brat. As the story is something that could never happen how could you say it was unrealistic.
