Sounds like a crap movie

No joke.

It is. No joke.

reply

Ya it's pretty horrible

reply

It is sadly.

It's better than a lot of other horror movies. Yes it's a tv movie and yes some of the dialogue is super cheesy and over written, but it's not horrible. The rating is a 6, acting at some points is bad but the whole cast has some amazing moments. The race card or cliche is not played in this the first person to die is not something I was expecting. If your a hardcore die hard horror movie fan you'll find it lame but if your looking for an interesting movie and watching it for a couple jumps here and there then watch it.

reply

I have to disagree. There have always been bad horror films, maybe more now than ever, but compared to this year, Animal is one of the worst and most generic.

I agree.. I think horror movies now a days basically have no plots, they are pretty bad. This movie is not the worst plus at lease it's not a remake, and I can say when I was watching it I wasn't expecting the deaths as much as I expect them in other movies. Is this the best movie no, the worst no, but it was directed by Drew Barrymore you can't expect much. I wasn't expecting much, plus I don't really watch creature movies... I'm just happy it wasn't a paranormal movie.

reply

This year has had some bad ones for sure, but there have been some good horror movies this year too.

Some good ones that I would recommend for this year:
Oculus
Open Grave
Only Lovers Left Alive
Afflicted
Cheap Thrills
13 Sins-The only remake, but still a good one!

Yeah, personally, I don't look too much into the horror genre as I use to. So I haven't watched these movies. It's only because I dislike paranormal movies, and over the last couple years that's been all the movies that have been coming out. So when I hear about a movie like this I watch it because I want something new and different. I also like low budged movies because you can take a second and actually have to rely on the actors and not the cool effects. But looking at what you've written you love horror movies. That's why I said that if you don't have as much knowledge in the horror movie genre you might actually like this movie a lot. This movie was decent, but then again I haven't watched a good horror movie in a couple years.

reply

You should really check out the films I listed. Oculus aside, the others aren't paranormal really, and they are really good. Sadly yes, most mainstream horror is just the same thing these days, and not to sound a hipster or anything, but the indie ones are usually the best now.

Agent_Mothman, you DO have a couple of good movies listed there but OCULUS was horrible. the ending alone ruins anything that may have been good before it. ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE is one of the most boring, pretentious movies i've ever seen (the 3 people i saw it with also felt the same way) and i hate saying that because i love the cast of that movie.

OPEN GRAVE i admit was VERY VERY good though. AFFLICTED was decent too. i haven't seen the others you listed.

It's a horror film, what's wrong with having a sad ending every once in a while?

ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE is one of the most boring, pretentious movies i've ever seen

And that is the worst criticsm I have ever heard. Boring? Sure, it's slow, but definitely not boring. Pretentious? Do you even know what that word means? I am so sick and tired of people here on IMDb calling a movie they don't like "pretentious". It shows a lack of understanding about the word, and it's merely seems to be used when someone doesn't actually have anything legitimate to complain about it.

um, ok. since you seem to be either in a douchey mood or simply can't stand negative comments against movies you like, we'll just leave this as it is.

oh and most people disliked OCULUS and it's ending (going by the comments i've read on that board). i'm all for sad endings but that ending was just stupid (hence the movie bombed). but by all means have at it. you have your beloved OCULUS to watch again and again! LOL.

and yes, ONLY LOVERS was a pretentious boring movie. i'm using the word correctly. but you being the Rhodes Scholar you think you are can think otherwise. LOL. have a nice day.

That's odd. I remember back when the film first came out and most people on the boards were praising the ending, and I still don't understand why you believe it was stupid.

Also, you are wrong about the movie bombing, it was quite succesful actually. It was made on a $5 million budget, and made nearly $30 million worldwide. Sure it's not a huge gross, but for a horror movie, especially with that low of a budget, it was not a bomb.

When does the movie pretend to be more important than it is? Just because you found it boring doesn't mean you can write it off as pretentious drivel.

Sadly I'd rather watch this mess than the horrible Insidious 2 (part 1 is overrated), The Conjuring and Mama. At least this knew it was a bad movie.

reply

I just watched for TK the main actor. other then that wow that was *beep* movie

reply

Got 11 minutes left pretty awful but the jump from Mandy pregnancy to arguing with Sean about Matt sexuality made me chuckle.

reply

That was my favorite part haha felt like I was watching a teen drama for a second.

reply

anyone saying this movie is one of the worst ever is either being hyperbolic, trolling or has seen about 3 horror movies in their life. yes, the movie isn't amazing nor is it reinventing the wheel but it was watchable. the acting from most (not all) was decent (Liz Gillies was very good) etc, etc. again, it's not a great film but it's decent.

reply

Agreed. I've seen a lot worse. Annabelle, and Oculus come to mind. This was entertaining.

reply

I saw it tonight. It was average. Nothing really special about this movie. I would have liked to have known what the creatures were and where they came from. And it would have been nice to have gotten to know the characters alittle better, too. But it's just another forgettable creature in the woods movie.

reply

I wanted to like this movie. I liked the actors involved. I was willing to overlook the generic plot too. However, the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Why in all these "people trapped inside a house while the creature waits outside" horror movies don't the victims ever try to make weapons? It's always the same thing: they look for guns, they look for knives, even chainsaws, but they never try to make their own weapons. They never break the furniture and try to make a spike, dagger, shield, stake, or a club of some kind. Nothing. Not even a board with a nail sticking in it. Right now I'm looking around my room and I can see dozens of weapons I can make with my furniture. So I don't understand why people in these horror movies never make a weapon of any kind.

The people in this movie obviously had stuff inside the house that allowed them to build a fire. Are you telling me that house doesn't have any kitchen knives, gardening shears, shovels, hammers, wrenches, screw drivers, nothing to defend themselves with? Even a spork or a mop or broom would be better than standing around unarmed. The fact that characters never make weapons is what always takes me out of these movies. There are more than half a dozen people in that house but none of them think about making weapons? Come on.

The story didn't break any fresh ground, but overall it's a competently done little B beast feast that delivers plenty of gore and a good deal of tension.
