Original Pilot link!

The humor was much better in Season 2 but this goes to show how the show originally had a bit more of an edge. I kind of wish they [were allowed to have] kept that edge.

Major things I noticed:
- There was originally a 6th group member (a 3rd guy). Based on this, I seriously think they were going for a teen version of Friends.

- Mrs. Klasby the babysitter ACTUALLY died.

- Jasmine was more like the Asian character on Bunk'd. "My mom thinks I'm at the library but I'm here!" "My parents think I'm volunteering at the hospital."

I'm glad they booted the sixth character personally. He didn't seem to add anything to the episode anyway.

"I guess it never hurts to 'shake it up'."

reply

I'm glad too, but it's a little unfair saying that he didn't add anything to the episode. That title would go to Delia or maybe even Garrett.

It would have been funny if they hired him to play The New Guy in Season 1.

reply

I just thought removing him didn't change anything at all and he didn't seem to have the same chemistry that the other cast members did.

That was great! I liked that version of the pilot better than the one they chose to air on TV. I wonder why they didn't stick with the original. I didn't like the stereotypes for Jasmine, but I thought the thrid guy, Vic, was good, and it was certainly interesting that Mrs. K actually died!

I just realised they used the same house from Dog with a Blog. I'm guessing they filmed the pilot when DWAB were on their season 1-2 hiatus. I'm kinda glad they re-shot the pilot and retooled the show a bit, the 6th friend wasn't really working.

reply

Was it the same house? I noticed the similarities but did they actually use the same exact set? Who knows.

It's funny how most sets were flipped in the final cut.

I actually really liked the sets in this one. The TV version's sets look normal/realistic, but this version's sets (especially in the basement) look too real to be a Disney show!

reply

Better than the crap they air on Nickelodeon. That's for sure.

Did anyone notice Mrs. Klasby's attempts to talk like she's from the hood was a lot easier for her?

reply

Was it a different actress? I didn't even notice.

No, it was Angela Paton, just like in the pilot episode we all saw.

reply

Ah, okay. That's what I thought. I was just confused by your wording.

"Though I will ask you to refrain from making speeches atop cafeteria tables in the future."

Season one had better humor year 2 sucks
