why does martin lawrence seem sedated?

so i just finished watching the first episode and i dont know what to think of the show. kelsey was good and energetic, but martins character who is the clean cut guy comes off flat. all the life and energy that martin lawrence usually brings is gone. its like hes out of gas. he seems like a shell of himself. if he can liven up it will make the show alot more interesting to watch.

He probably pops about 80 MG's of Oxy just to get through this mess. He knows it's gonna get cancelled shortly and mailed it in before it even aired.

reply

I'm guessing he's taking his meds to control the bipolar disease.

I was wondering the exact same thing. He used to be so energetic and animated but on this show he just slowly shuffles around and makes minimal gestures. I still think he's funny, but I'm distracted by wondering what's wrong with him.

I think it's a combination of a couple of things. First, as a previous poster mentioned, Martin is on meds for his mental illness. That actually calmed him down quite a bit from the old "hyper" Martin that many people probably remember. Also, I think his character is supposed to be more of the straight man/serious guy. His character in this show isn't supposed to be the crazy energetic guy that he usually plays. I think he's just supposed to be a pretty low key, humble guy who's trying to heal from his divorce, which is different from what we're used to seeing from him.

reply

Yeah, even in the promos he looked medicated. Haven't seen the show, but I like Kelsey and wanted to check it out. I remember some bizzare episode with Martin some years back so....

reply

Um the character is the straight guy and Martin is older now. We haven't seen him in a few years and people do mellow as they mature - meds or no meds. Bipolar people are not exempt from the natural aging process of slowing down.

reply

Yeah sorry, I think its more than just age, he does seem different, and I think its more than just straight man character, humble people don't have to be zombies. He seems out of it.

but as long as he is healthy that is what is important.

you can not blame fans for being a little intrigued. I was a kid when he was on tv and even I was like... erm... does he not like this role?

I was coming here to see what other people thought too. I get that this is more of a conservative character but he is so flat. No vocal infliction at all. How is he going to get through Bad Boys III? I feel awful for him. I know bi-polar is an awful, awful disease and maybe it is his meds. Maybe his doctor sees it too and tries to tweak it a bit. That's the worst with psychiatric meds. You try to get one thing under control but you risk turning down the lights on your personality. Not easy to treat at all.

reply

Probably because he is taking prescription medications for bi-polar

You're a troll.
